Uncle Micah leaves them a stagecoach line
bkoganbing21 October 2018
In this James Garner's last episode we learn that the Mavericks had an Uncle Micah who must have been estranged from dear old pappy. Because he disapproved of their gambling ways he left them a stagecoach line a pretty broken down one at that with a valuable right of way. They can't sell it but at an enormous profit showing they have business sense. So they have to make some short term money in order to sell it to rancher Peggy McCay who wants it badly. So does executor Will Wright who's willing to do a lot to see he gets the line.

It seems like the best friend James Garner and Jack Kelly have is road agent Buddy Ebsen in a really droll performance.

The ending is quite ironic because it turns out that everyone but the Maverick brothers and Ebsen know something they don't know. And Ebsen sees a great future for himself.

James Garner left the series because of a contract dispute with Warner Brothers but on the note of a great episode.

Maverick: The Maverick Line
jcolyer122922 May 2015
The brothers inherit a stagecoach line from their Uncle Micah. This is the only episode in which Micah is mentioned. The stagecoach line is broke, but the fact that the railroad is coming through provides hope. Bret and Bart may have been the first anti-heroes. They were primarily out for number one and would avoid trouble whenever possible. That James Garner was wounded in Korea may have contributed to his portrayal of Bret. He was wounded in the buttocks by friendly fire, a misfortune he shared with Forrest Gump. Still, it cannot be assumed that either Garner or Bret were cowards. Both Mavericks liked women. This was James Garner's final episode.

Well Doggies, Where Them There Hills of Dust?

Warning: Spoilers
James Garners last show is an old reunion with Bart, going to the reading of an obscure Uncles will. The brothers don't exactly like the terms of his will forcing them to try to run a stage line at a profit. Meanwhile, there's a right of way owned by the stage line which runs through an attractive (woman's) ranch. The executor of the Uncles Estate is about the definition of a crooked lawyer whose trying to cook the brothers and the rancher's goose because the railroad is coming through.

Enter Rumsey (Uncle Jed Clampett) whose a career Gold Dust thief (he hasn't struck oil yet) without his Ozarks accent. The Mavericks have reached the end of the line for Bret, but it's been a good run. Garner leaves on a contract issue getting credit in 1 future episode he does not appear in. Of course, there is a land rush because of the crooked lawyer to cap off the plot.

If that does not beat all, maybe we need to note there's no poker in this episode.
