Doc Holliday shows up at a dental convention. He likes to keep track of his former classmates. This is the cigar-smokingest bunch I ever saw. Always a bad girl involved, and this time it is the Senator's daughter. Bart wins a newspaper and is sued for libel, after which he lets Doc become his partner. When Doc engages in a rowing contest, Bart sabotages his competition's boat so Doc can win. Bart and Doc clash when Bart publishes a story calling Doc a killer. The Senator supplies Doc with a dental office, telling him he wants a professional man in the family. Doc pulls the Senator's tooth in a scene uncharacteristic of the early episodes. By the spring of 1962, Maverick's creators had run out of ideas. Jack Kelly actually owned a newspaper: The Huntington Beach News.
