An excellent Kelly episode
clore_218 May 2014
The Jack Kelly episodes have always tended to get the short shrift but this is a great example of the stylistic differences between what went to Garner and what went to Kelly. Here, as often happens to a Maverick brother, we see Bart winning a nice pot in the opening, only to lose it.

This time it comes from the hotel safe being robbed so in order to generate some cash, Bart accepts the job of body guard to the bank president played by lovely Julie Adams. She just happens to be receiving threatening notes and is the target of an errant shot from a would-be assassin. Of course, she and Bart become an item, much to the dismay of the town Mayor.

It's a good yarn with several twists, well worth seeing to catch Bart as a lover and a fighter and to appreciate Mr. Kelly's talents in both departments.

The White Widow
jcolyer122912 February 2016
Her name is Wilma White, and she is a widow. Thus, the title! When Bart puts his winnings in the hotel safe, it is stolen and he must apply for a bank loan. Wilma White is the bank president. Bart says he doesn't "settle too well." Wilma is not used to being turned down. They kiss! There is suspense as the widow's life seems to be threatened. I will not say who is doing it, but there are several suspects. When the widow hires Bart to protect her, he naturally gets knocked in the head. He was knocked in the head so many times during the series, it is wonder he did not have brain damage. Julie Adams is the white (black) widow. She was in Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Town intrigue
bkoganbing27 September 2018
After a night's poker winnings Bart Maverick puts his $5000.00 in the hotel safe. But when he comes to collect it the next morning it's gone and the night clerk murdered. He gets offer of free room and board at the hotel by owner Richard Webb and an introduction to bank president Julie Adams who took the bank over when her husband was killed.

Adams is being threatened to and a Maverick does all kinds of odd jobs when he needs a poker grubstake. Jack Kelly is soon involved in all kinds of intrigue when the widow starts getting all kinds of mysterious notes threatening her life.

Not too hard to figure out what's going on here. That however does not stop this from being a good Maverick story for Jack Kelly.
