A flashback scene was filmed showing the shooting incident that led to the split between Tubbs and Batisse in New York, but was cut from the final episode without explanation.
Working title for this episode: "Long Time, No See".
Throughout the episode, the shakuhachi opening refrain of "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel is blended into Jan Hammer's music at appropriate moments. This is not the first time Hammer has mimicked one of the popular songs used in an episode like this; he did the same in No Exit (1984), in which some of his score emulates Phil Collins' "I Don't Care Anymore". Tim Truman would likewise copy Eric Clapton's "She's Waiting" in The Lost Madonna (1989).
While there is clearly an actor playing the role of incarcerated bookie "Lucas", there is no credit to this actor's name for it. This unknown actor was prominently on-screen and had important dialogue with Tubbs (regarding his character's statement to the IAD). This normally constitutes an acting credit however small. Yet it's still unknown who this actor was who played this role in what was a critical scene, as it directly led to the exoneration of Tubbs' former partner.
This is not the first time the show has neglected to credit an actor with an on-screen role with dialogue during an important scene. Earlier in the season during Shadow in the Dark (1986), there is clearly an actor playing the role of copycat burglar "Lido Starr" yet no credit to this actor's name. Like the the actor portraying "Lucas", this actor too was clearly on-screen and had dialogue (with his police interrogators as Crockett, Tubbs & Capt. Cahill observing, as Starr was insistent on the correct spelling of his name), which should mean an acting credit however small to the actor. This actor too remains unknown despite playing an important role role in a critical scene, as this led to the continued pursuit of The Shadow cat burglar who was still at-large.
