A very touching and unique episode of Millennium.

Warning: Spoilers
During Christmas time, Frank (Lance Henriksen) remembers the events surrounding his mother's death in his childhood. Meanwhile, Jordan (Brittany Tiplady) is visited by the spirit of her dead grandmother, Frank's mother. Frank becomes worried about Jordan's gift, and what it will do to her in the future. In a scene, Catherine ( Megan Gallagher) tells Frank that his gift caused him a mental breakdown and separated him from his family. She tells Frank she doesn't want the same thing to happen to Jordan, she doesn't want her to not have anywhere to turn to other than within herself. By the end of the episode, in a very touching moment, Frank reconciles with his father, with whom he wasn't speaking for years, and in the last scene Frank and Jordan share a vision of the souls of the people who are about to die, among the souls, is Frank's father.

I am very fond of this episode, different from the majority of Millennium episodes, this is a very light one, and there is no crime scene, serial killer or any manifestation of evil. It's a Christmas episode, we can take a look at Frank's personal life, his struggle to maintain his sanity, to save his marriage and above all to have a normal relationship with his daughter. There is also a very good moment between Frank and Lara Means ( Kristen Cloke). Every time I finish watching this episode, I am left with a great feeling inside, it's truly a great episode, one of the best of the series, certainly the best written by Erin Maher e Kay Reindl.

Again sad scenes, seeing again past time.

Again sad scenes, seeing again past time.

We are remembering with frank again. Previous one was in the episode of "268" where the old soldiler's spirit has come back.

Here, in this episode, most of the scenes are touching. They are also a few some comic scenes like in toy store.

I could not get also the ghost who kept saying "tomorrow and tomorrow". Was it about grandmother?

Grandmother did not move the statue but instead, she went to grand daughter. And it connected all family. It seems..

Another appearance of "Sammael"
XweAponX1 May 2022
Patrick Currie ("Fifth", the Human Form Replicator from Stargate SG-1) is a Sammael-type Angel this time. Although he is called "Simon" in the credits. Similar enough name. This time he is there to bring Frank's attention to the "Fetches" that he will see, on this midnight of the century.

Darren McGavin and Mike Dopud both play Frank Blacks father, Mike in the 40's, Darren in the present.

I can think of no other actor that could have possibly been Frank Black's father, but Mike was a good choice to play the younger Mr Black.

Basically, this story starts out as an argument between Catherine and Frank, because Jordan draws an angel and claims that it was Frank's mother who helped her.

Catherine, who is normally one of the best mothers, turned into an instant "_____" about it. As Frank tells her: "it is what it is, there is no "fixing" Jordan". And then of course she goes on a rant against The Millennium group, claiming things about Frank that are just not true. In this one instant she is 100% wrong and not acting as the best parent for Jordan.

Frank of course knows how to speak to her when she is like this, and he gets her to calm down and eventually back off. I have always believed that nothing that Frank ever did caused them to move out of the yellow house, it has always been completely upon Catherine. Frank only acted like a husband and father, any husband and father, protecting his family. But then again Frank himself is also stubborn. In one episode Catherine tells Frank "we have not been racking up the Kodak moments in the yellow house", this is wholly untrue. There were several moments in the yellow house during season one that superseded anything horrible that ever occurred there. So, Catherine is just plain wrong, and Frank is just too stubborn to stand up against it. He finally starts telling Catherine what is going on in the later "owls/roosters" episodes. But she wasn't really around that much in season two.

During this difficult confrontation, Frank has memories of his own childhood when he himself was developing his own gift which was similar to his mothers. And so this episode spans decades and generations of the Black Family, Frank and his mother and father, Jordan and her father and mother.

And in the midst of all of this, Samiel visits Frank to give him some wisdom. We have to wonder if Frank is really seeing this entity, I believe he is. It is the same kind of visitation as we saw in the season one episode, and in the season three episode.

And the dilemma of this episode is basically, "what Christmas gift can Frank get for Jordan this year"... because his previous plans were thwarted by Catherines mother.

It got so bad that Frank had to call in the cavalry of "The eyes of Laura Means", because of course, Laura's vision always includes her "angel".

Which of course leads to a meaningful and informative discussion about angels between Laura and Frank. Which makes this episode even more interesting.

But it's the interaction between Frank Black and his father Darren McGavin that drives this home. And the final scene which is shared by both Frank and Jordan, is very touching.

Really do not understand why this review was declined, can you please explain it to me? I went through it there are no spoilers, there are no bad words. I even edited an expletive to be "_____", because I think people get the picture about how Catherine is acting in this episode.

Very beautiful and little sad

Warning: Spoilers
I love whole Millennium and this episode particularly (to be honest, i havent watched third season yet because for me the world has ended at the end of the second season :) This is very special episode for me because i Love Christmas and i Loved my father who died some years ago...I was his daugter and Christmas time was always happy one for our famil..and after his death it was hard, for long time... What i like is that there are no murders, no killers, just peace and quiet, although Frank is troubled by the death of his mother as every year at this time. I feel sorry for him because he is now estranged from his family, from his father, from his wife and especially from his daugher. Family is what Frank Black values above all and circumstances were, he cannot be with it anymore. As i said, it was peaceful and christmasy episode, but under all that peace i feel urge and anxiousness. Catherine told it, "the time is running out" and i feel this are some of last days which he can spend with his family in peace. And i am sad for it. And I was annoyed and little pissed when Catherine didnt save the seat for him. And I was pissed they split. In last placid days they wasted their time to be togehter as a family. And i was pissed Frank wasted many years in anger with his father. And finally, at the end, his father died. Just one of many to follow him...

Nutcracker music from this episode just intensifies the feeling of quiet and christmas mood. And the performance of actors is great. I like Brittany Tiplady, her whole acting during all Millennium series was absolutely great, I totally believe their are her parents.

Paint the angels and the heavens shall weep.

Warning: Spoilers
Midnight of the Century is more of a character building episode, without any case. Family coming together and falling apart at Christmas time. There's some strong stuff in here, but it's not always engaging.
