After Willy re-wires the electrical outlet, you can see it is upside down as he is putting the faceplate back on. When he goes to plug in the extension cord, the outlet is now right-side-up
When the plug was accidentally knocked out of the outlet, the picture would not have faded out. It would have immediately changed to snow. Likewise, when the plug was plugged back in, the picture would have immediately changed from snow back to the picture. Also, the sound from the room where Riva Santel was making the speech would have been lost during the disconnection period.
Barney and Willie re-wired the electrical outlets to pass two wires through. This was supposed to allow remote control of the camera and full reception of the video and audio signals in the truck. The TV cameras of the day could not have been remotely controlled through two signal wires - including the full video and audio signal. There would also have been electrical interference from the AC power present in the outlet box, since the wire used to pass the video signal through the outlets was not a coax cable.
When the hot electrical wires were disconnected to pass the wires through the wall to control the TV camera, the hot wires were not capped to prevent a short-circuit or grounding, which would have blown the fuse (or circuit breaker).
When the doctored video tape was played, the cuts and splices in the tape would have been obvious - Riva Santel's head would have jumped from one position to the next, and there would have been an obvious jump in the picture. Video tape cannot be edited that cleanly.
As the wife of the former president, Riva's fingerprints would have to be on record. She could easily prove her identity through them.
When Willy inserts the electrical outlet back into the wall (approx 25:00), the ground slot is at the top, opposite the outlet on the left. When he plugs in the cord, however, the ground is on the bottom, the same as the outlet on the left.
During the cosmetic procedure on Riva Santel, neither Dr. van Bergner or Rollin are wearing surgical masks.
The IM team could not have known in advance that editing the videotape would result in the desired outcome.
Barnie is recording on a Sony PV series helical videotape recorder which records the video signal in a long diagonal pattern across the tape. He then edits the tape using a Smiths Splicer, designed for editing "quad" videotapes which records the video in a perpendicular pattern. In reality, it's not possible to edit a helical videotape through physical cutting and splicing at all.
