- A gang specializing in smuggling criminals out of the country manages to free Gunther Schell, a Syndicate finance man who knows the location of $27 million in Syndicate money. But this same gang instead tries to use psychological torture methods to get Schell to reveal the location of the money. To recapture Schell and to put a stop to the fugitive smuggling operation, the IMF publicizes that Jim Phelps is a doctor wanted for murder who also needs the services of the fugitive smuggling operation.—aldanoli
- A mobster named Schell is on his way to the Penn, but the car he is in is intercepted--and he is "rescued". Phelps and the IMF are called in, and it is revealed that Schell was taken by a group who "promises" to 'rescue" prisoner and set them with a new identity and such...but in reality the group brainwashes the prisoners into revealing information--including the location of the 27 million dollars that Schell hid before he was caught. Phelps decides to go undercover as "Dr. Brady, a man who killed a guy and stole a million dollars from him....and needing "rescue". Barney makes contact with an informer--and "Brady" is sent to make contact with "Claverling" the head of the group. Claverling takes Phelps $50k...and then takes him to a coffin....has him get inside with a bottle of sedated oxygen...and then Claverling and his gang transport "Brady" to the "Lotus Hills Mortuary". Claverling then goes to see "Dr. Hargraves", who has a drugged Schell in an IPCRESS type psychedelic chamber", in which a high--powered sound system, bizarre lighting and an orbiting, spinning chair are used to break Schell into talking...but to no avail. Schell will still NOT reveal the location of the skim money to Hargraves, while still strapped into the chair, and threatened with more "treatment".
Meanwhile, "Brady" has been removed from the coffin and placed in a holding room. He awakens, dizzily, and then heads to the basement to place a powder into the ventilation system. This will produce an adverse reaction in Schell--who is a diabetic. Once he has placed this in the blower, "Brady" then returns to his holding room, just as orderlies come for him, to take him to Hargraves for "his "session". after a brief struggle..."Brady" is drugged, and is placed into the chair in the chamber, and Hargraves begins to ask him some questions--but Phelps is able to resist--and maintain his "Brady" cover. Hargraves then decided that with some "treatment... Brady" will TALK.
The lights come on, errie, deafening sounds begin, and the chair that "Brady" is strapped into begins to spin and orbit the room. The surreal IPCRESS setup would most surely cause Phelps to reveal whom he is, except that by now the powder placed in the HVAC system has triggered the reaction in Schell. "Brady" is quickly removed from the chamber--given an antidote to the truth serum and taken to help Schell--but resists, demanding his "freedom" that the group had promised him. After being told he will NOT leave unless he helps Schell..."Brady" calls his friend(Willy),. who is then taken in a blindfold to the Mortuary, to join "Brady". Under the guise of checking Schell, Willy and Phelps gas everyone in the room, and secret out Schell, to Casey, who is waiting outside. Schell is taken to his superior n the mob--who then has him take them to the location of the money he hid. The IMF has bugged Schells car--and is led to the location of the money--just as Claverling and his goons show up to take the money from Schell.....but the police are there to arrest ALL.
