One Of The Best-Remembered Episodes: Herman The Wrestler
ccthemovieman-128 March 2007
Herman is upset as he finds letters from school that Eddie has been hiding from his parents, letters telling them that their book is flunking science. Herman says he and Lily must go down and see the Principal at Mockingbird Heights Elementary School "face to face."

Meanwhile, "Taggart," an ex-prison guard now working at the school as a juvenile investigator, wants Eddie expelled for his family not responding to those letters! He looks at the pupils as "inmates," but the principal isn't buying it. Taggart does talk the boss into going to the Munsters house "and throw a good scare into those Munsters." That's a great part of the show: Taggart being given a tour of the house by Grandpa! After the juvenile officer sees what's what, he tells Grandpa he is recommend Eddie be expelled, so the old man sics the robot on him! Taggart runs for his life and later vows to destroy that robot before Eddie can make a hit with it at the science fair that night.

How Eddiie, his family and the robot foil the evil Taggart is pretty funny and once again, this is an entertaining episode. I don't want to ruin it, but Herman's vaudeville act is a real hoot! This is a classic episode, remembered well by those of us who have watched this show for many years. Herman becomes "The Masked Marvel," a wrestler. He's doing it to put extra money in the bank for Eddie's college fund.

It came about when Eddie had a friend over, Wilbur, and Herman wowed the kids with exhibitions of his strength. Wilbur's dad is a wrestling promoter, hears about Herman, calls him and invites him to be a wrestler.

Herman's first bout is with Tarzan McGuirk. It winds up like his next seven with Herman's soft heart ruining his record.....but his face saving him in the end!

The Munsters - Tin Can Man
Scarecrow-8817 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Eddie is flunking Science and Herman is up in arms, insisting his boy knock the science project out of the park in order to securing a passing grade. Arch Johnson's grouchy "juvenile investigator", hired at the school after a stint at a prison guard (!), wants to see that Eddie is expelled due to his deteriorating grade and is irritated at the parents for their failure to address the problem. The principal (Dick Simmons) is a bit disenchanted with Johnson's attitude, warning him that if his investigation into the family turns out to be false, he'll be canned. Johnson makes it his mission to prove they are deserved of such a harsh critique… Grandpa helping Eddie build the "tin bucket robot", including the "surgery" and its "acting up" (including falling apart at the worst possible time thanks in part to shifty Johnson) and Herman going on stage for his son while they attempt to fix the science project, with the audience believing Herman is in fact the science project (ha!) are highlights. Herman overcoming stage fright and performing for the parents and school faculty as Grandpa tries as he might to repair the robot as Eddie's fate seemingly hangs in the balance offers entertaining results. Johnson getting a tour of the Munster mansion, Grandpa his guide, hoping to find a reason to expel Eddie is especially noteworthy when they head into the dungeon and the robot emerges on command to scare the grumpy troublemaker. Herman's book of jokes as Lily seems unamused at the dinner table serves him well on stage! That robot is a knockout!

Metal Munster Mayhem.
BA_Harrison7 December 2008
After two pretty disappointing episodes (Pike's Pique and Low-Cal Munster), Season One gets back on track with this enjoyably silly tale, which sees Eddie threatened with expulsion from school after he fails to tell his parents that he is flunking science. Keen to impress his principal at the school science-fair, Eddie builds a life-size, fully-functioning robot, but his creation is sabotaged by Taggart, the school's juvenile investigator, who is keen to see the wolf-boy sent packing.

With loads of terrific one-liners, some good visual gags (I love the scene where the Munsters operate on the robot, and Herman faints at the sight of oil!), a hilarious case of mistaken identity, and plenty of puns, plus quite a lot of screen time for Marilyn (for those who like their Munster women blonde, young, and alive), Tin Can Man is great fun from start to finish.
