Hysterically Funny

This entire series is billed as "dark humor". The plot is someone always gets murdered for laughs in each episode. If you like Monty Python, Second City TV, SNL, you will probably like this episode entitled "Overkill". I was laughing out loud. HINT: Think about the title.

I'm watching the series on FreeVee from the first episode. Some are outdated and corny but this one was just silly fun.

Dawn French is a very talented actor and writer. Her comedic skits are comparable to Carol Burnett and Tracey Ullman. Amanda Donohue plays off Dawn French very well. The writer is Steven Moffat who wrote for Sherlock and Doctor Who.

Blacker than black comedy - the episode's title is an understatement!

Warning: Spoilers
In the second season opener of "Murder Most Horrid", Dawn French plays a seemingly clumsy woman who's about to commit suicide by hanging herself in a hotel room. At the last second, she is interrupted by a black-clad hitwoman (the dazzling Amanda Donohoe), who is there to complete her latest "job". But her target is on to her, so she devises a plan to use Dawn to eliminate him. Needless to say, the plan goes very, very wrong. This episode can be quite shocking on the first viewing - it's a truly black comedy, and French's character is far from the innocent victim she appears to be at first. Do NOT expect any redemptions or happy endings here; DO expect a lot of corpses. You will laugh - and then feel guilty about it! **1/2 out of 4.

Tasteless and weak - one of the poorest episodes

This series was written as a vehicle for Dawn French and thus, given her limited acting skills, some episodes will be better than others. This must be one of the worst.

The initial premise, that French is about to hang herself when interrupted by a professional assassin who threatens to shoot French if she does not follow orders, French threatening in return to hang herself, doubtless appeared to be an amusing "Mexican Stand Off" when it was written, but rather comes across as simply stupid on screen.

The episode thereafter descends into slapstick farce, by way of deeply unamusing jokes about "blow jobs" - not something I ever remember hearing on the BBC before? - and becomes less funny as it goes on, descending to a level that may amuse an 8 year old. It fails to have either a witty twist or pay off, rather fizzles out with yet another slap stick joke.

Deeply unfunny.
