It was great seeing the entire cast come back. My laughter never stopped throughout the entire half-hour show. Welcome Back Murphy Brown!

She's back, and it's war!

Warning: Spoilers
We finally get to see Murphy's parents together with the first appearance of her father, Darren McGavin, and the return of Colleen Dewhurst, coming to Washington to see Murphy get an award. Divorced for 15 years, Murphy's parents haven't seen each other since then, so we have to hope that the level of extreme hatred has been lowered to complete resentment. With McGavin bringing his much younger wife (young enough to be his granddaughter), the possibility of conflict is totally off the charts, and the insults begin to run overtime the minute that Avery Brown arrives. "I smell paint...and something else" Avery says upon realizing that her ex is there. If it's not Avery being amazed by her ex's ability to still create life, it's Bill's insulting of her hats. "Interesting family. Sort of like a Fellini version of The Waltons", Murphy analyzes, and you don't need father's private recipe. This is the moment we've all been waiting for and didn't even realize it in the series because it's picture perfect and filled with everything that makes for great family conflict, giving a terrific insight to Murphy and how she is. When Murphy's young stepmother, Karen, tells Murphy about their sex life, her reaction is perfect. This is part one of a two-part episode, and one that could have lasted all season as far as I'm concerned.
