Famous producer and writer Jack Laird wrote this terrific "growing up and it hurts" episode, this time all about Robbie and his new girl friend, Peggy (well played by Marta Kristen).
Most every guy in school fell head over heels in love with a girl who was a "tomboy", meaning she did things that guys liked, including getting dirty hands. Such is the case with Robbie who meets Peggy --although the feminine side of her begins to bloom and that spells trouble. And complications for Robbie when he gets REALLY yelled at by his new best friend.
These early episodes of the long series showed you what great actors the kids were, especially Don Grady who was a natural, especially in a more dramatic episode. He turned on that long, brooding face and got the job done. Likewise, we get a glimpse of young Marta Kristen, soon to co-star in LOST IN SPACE. Marta had an interesting career as she was raised in Detroit, but ended up relocating to Los Angeles and by shear luck got noticed and began an immediate acting career.
To note, writer Jack Laird did a good job with this episode, though his cop o' tea was the dramatic, with such shows as NIGHT GALLERY and KOJAK.
He reportedly also gave breaks to many young and upcoming writers, such as Steven Speilberg. Laird is fondly remembered.
Watch this for lots of memories, and NEVER forget Bub (William Frawley) cooking and grumbling in the kitchen. He was the man. SEASON 1 EPISODE 11 restored dvd box set.
