Nanny on Edge
JordanThomasHall20 June 2017
The Everett family is enjoying the circus when Nanny (Juliet Mills) recognizes Princess Lotus Flower as her Aunt Henrietta (Elsa Lanchester, the title role in the classic "The Bride of Frankenstein", Katie Nanna in "Mary Poppins", and played alongside her real-life husband Charles Laughton in "Witness for the Prosecution"). She says she owns the circus, but tours with them as a fortune teller. She questions Nanny why she has stayed in one place for so long. Nanny realizes this is the same questioning her other aunts gave her and feels Aunt Henrietta came to "pry her loose from a dreary rut". She tells Nanny that she sees a man with a mustache will abduct her and place her in great danger. Neighbor Mrs. Fowler (Patsy Garrett) is all-believing in the predictions. A repairman (Bob Hastings, Lt. Elroy Carpenter in "McHales Navy") with a mustache comes to the house to fix the dishwasher. Nothing occurs, but it puts Nanny on edge and she goes to the circus to visit her aunt who refuses to take back her premonition. Nanny decides to force the situation and breaks down alongside the road. A passerby named Calaveri the Great (busy character actor Anthony Caruso) stops on his way to the circus where he is a magician alongside his wife. Mrs. Fowler passes by to see the mustached man giving Nanny a ride and spots a sign with him sawing a woman in half, to great comic effect. When Aunt Henrietta tells the Everetts that his act is to throw knives, they all rush to the circus.
