Strong episode with an appearance from Trigger
snoozejonc10 September 2020
After the death of Trigger's Grandmother, Del, Rodney and Granddad attempt to dispose of her late husband's ashes.

If you dig up the past it might come back to haunt you as Grandad finds out in this episode. Also, how difficult is it to dispose of someone's ashes? Very difficult it you're a Trotter.

This is a strong entry to the second season, particularly the initial scenes that take place at the market, the funeral and the back at the flat. Lots of classic banter between the central three characters and a good cameo from Trigger. The scene with the traffic cone a classic series moment.

We then have a change of tone as the plot evolves into a series of sight gags about them trying to dispose of the ashes in series of creative ways. These are done very well, but for me Only Fools And Horses is all about the banter. However, if you appreciate the humour being a bit more varied, you will absolutely love this one.

Have We Written Permission from the River Authorities?

Series two already demonstrating better writing. Rather than each episode building up to one joke at the end as was the case in most of the first series the story-lines in the first two episodes of series two are better planned and thought out.

We have a situation in Ashes to Ashes with enough thought put into it that it can take part over multiple scenes and so it feels like less screen time is filler - most of it serves to tell the story and give a few laughs, even if it does take a few minutes to get going.

Best moments: Del pretending to be Arthur and Del and Rodney trying to find somewhere to scatter the ashes.

So, most of the episode really.

Ashes to Ashes

This is another fab episode of the show, with it being clear that John Sullivan really had the bit between his teeth now - he's writing for the actors playing the roles, bringing out their strengths.

Perhaps the ending is a little rushed, but on the whole this is great.

Warning: Spoilers
Again, a brilliant episode. Season Two really stands out as a cry of brilliance from the incredibly talented pen of John Sullivan. The story stands out by it's wackiness, brilliance and hilariousness. It goes: Del Boy buys two urns at the funeral of Trigger's grandma. During the inspection of them he finds one of them is full. As it turns out Grandad had a major fall out with Arthur (Trigger's grandam's husband, who's ashes is in the urn) when Grandad cheated with his wife. So Arthur (having some gypsy blood in him) puts a curse on old Grandad to haunt him when he dies. Del and Rodney try everything to get rid of the ashes but it doesn't work. When finally it is sucked into a garbage truck they find out Trigger's grandma married twice and there is ashes in the second urn too.

"Ashes to Ashes" is absolutely brilliant, funny and well made.
