Sergeant Barley (Vince Edwards) is angry. Someone murdered his partner and there are no leads. So, he approaches Holly Connor (Donald O'Connor) and asks the guy to go back on the streets and see if he can find any information about the murder. It seems that years ago, Holly was a snitch working for the police and he's been clean from drugs for many years and is living a nice life...but he's willing to do anything to help Barley. But, is Barley asking too much? After all, Holly has a wife and kids...and the criminals involved are more than willing to add yet another corpse to their body count. Plus, will him pretending to be on heroin once again lead to him actually becoming a user? It's a dangerous situation and one that might destroy Holly in the process.
Seeing Donald O'Connor playing such a role is a bit of a shock..especially at his age. It just want's expected and came as a bit of a surprise. It was also interesting seeing how tough it was for the guy to return to the old life and yet keep himself clean and above it all. Very interesting and well made.
