A group in London are recruiting mercenaries - they want ruthless hitmen, who will each be paid handsomely to take out a seemingly random target whom they've been assigned to
Bodie and Doyle have been sent undercover to infiltrate this organization - they work independently, so the group's paymaster is unaware they even know each other, let alone work for CI5. But just who is this mysterious and anonymous paymaster - and why have these particular assassination targets been chosen?
Sadly, this was the last episode of the show ever filmed. But it's a good, solid, story that has a good sense of pace and mystery. The scenes with the anonymous paymaster have a certain James Bond-esque other-worldliness, and keep the viewer guessing as to who is exactly orchestrating the whole affair.
Cowley has his own problems too, as he tangles with MI6 brass and gets his toes stepped on as the project progresses.
All in all, an intriguing and entertaining story to finish this classic series in good style.
