Hardly any mystery, hardly any Quincy for that matter...
... but there is quite a bit of Dr. Asten, who is at least a regular. Later in the series when they get even more heavily into these tiresome social issues episodes, a group of anonymous actors show up playing even more anonymous characters who have no connection to the regular characters of Quincy. But I digress.
A teen girl and her boyfriend leave a party where other teens have been drinking. Later there is a bad car accident where the boy is killed. When the couple left the party the girl was initially driving, but she claims at the time of the accident she was the passenger. If the two switched positions and where they would have switched is a blank to her because she was so terribly drunk. She could be facing manslaughter charges and furthermore she is Dr. Asten's niece. So the medical examiner's office tries to determine who was driving, which will be hard since the car burned on impact after the couple was thrown clear.
So there is very little Quincy in this episode and lots of screeching and pontificating about teen drinking. And there is a counseling session involving teen drinkers and a counselor who is a former teen alcoholic that foreshadows the infamous debate between Quincy and some punk rockers in season eight, but it is at least better done than that later scene was.
Ray Danton is the director of this episode, and he appears more frequently as the seasons progress and the preaching on Quincy gets more tiresome. I don't know if he was an enthusiastic participant in these types of episodes or the show couldn't get anybody else more noteworthy to direct.
