Dino south of the border
bkoganbing25 February 2017
The Rawhide regulars take a definite back seat to the outstanding guest cast assembled for this episode. Topped by Dean Martin as an aging gunfighter who works by contract and travels now with his wife Laura Devon who only wants Dino to get out of the business.

The contract Dino has is for Michael Ansara the don of a large estancia in Mexico and for whom Eric Fleming has taken his crew to drive his cattle across the border. The drovers basically are spectators although Devon has some history with Gil Favor.

Such other folks as Theodore Bikel as a dime novelist, Ramon Novarro as the village priest and Jack Kruschen as a bartender also give a good account of themselves.

Someone should have thought to give Clint Eastwood a scene with Dino. But Eastwood is not in this episode. What a pity.

Dean Martin gives a good dramatic performance here. I believe this is the only dramatic part he ever did on a television series as a guest star. Worth seeing for that alone.
