A release prisoner comes to North Fork to kill McCain.
kfo949410 August 2013
Character John Anderson does a nice job playing the part of John Beaumont an aging man that has just been release from a Kansas prison. Beaumont has made his way to North Fork to find Lucas McCain, the person that sent him to jail for robbery.

Time as not been good for Beaumont as he looks older than his years and his eyesight was weaken to the point of having to wear very thick glasses. Beaumont carries a shotgun and is very effective with his shooting. Lucas will have to be alert for a person that he does not even remember.

This is rather a sad tale of how revenge can eat at a person's life. John Anderson plays the part to perfection and makes the viewer feel for his past. A nice story that was well played by the entire cast.

My all time favorite episode.

Warning: Spoilers
John Anderson was a wonderful actor, and "Shotgun Man" was a great showcase for this. He starts us out wondering what could be so ominous about a broken down old geezer with coke-bottle glasses and then, after a brief exchange with Lucas to set up the reason for his presence in Northfork, completely shatters McCain's demonstration of prowess with his rifle {five or six rapid fire vertical shots through a fence rail}, by completely blowing that section of fence to smithereens with one blast from his shotgun! This very effectively sets up the climate of fear and dread that permeates this dark episode until in the end Anderson is again shown as helpless after he loses his glasses. I wish someone would start rerunning this classic series again. I am also a huge Paul Fix fan, many are not aware that Fix was, for many years, John Waynes principal acting teacher and coach.
