Good chemistry between the actors

To get some kissing scenes with a beautiful woman, Chuck Connors has to write his own episode in the series and actually did a very nice job. The episode begins as an older man is killed by his son in order to get an inheritance. But there is still one person that is set to inherit some of the property and it is none other than a friend of Lucas McCain named Ann Dodd.

Lucas knows Ann from years ago as she was friends with his deceased wife. They have not seen each other for years and she is stopping by North Fork on her way to her Uncle's place. While in North Fork, Lucas is enamored with the beautiful Ann and it seems that she returns the feeling. But while staying at the North Fork hotel, the son of the dead uncle wants to make sure that Ann does not get any of the inheritance. Ann does not know but she is going to be visited by the son with another death on his mind.

An enjoyable episode that the viewer wished would never end. It would have been nice to see Lucas get a woman but I guess the producers wanted this to be a father and son series to the very end. Christine White was excellent as the visiting Ann and the chemistry she had with Chuck Connors was evident on the screen. Another nice watch.

NOTE- some odd dialog. At the very beginning when Mark and Lucas are getting ready to meet the stage, Mark said that he thought they were going fishing that morning. When they meet the stage, Mark all of the sudden has to go to school. --- When Mark and Ann are drying the dishes and Ann says she will stay another day, Mark wants to stay-up saying there is no school tomorrow. Yet when she is leaving on the stage Mark says the teacher let him out early.

THE RIFLEMAN – The Visitor – 1960

Chuck Connors and son Johnny Crawford head into North Fork to meet the stage. An old friend of Connors' deceased wife is passing through town. The woman, Christine White, is heading west to collect her inheritance. Her father, Ralph Moody, has just died and left her part of a large ranch.

Connors and White take an immediate shine to each other and White agrees to stay a few more days and visit. There is a fly in the ointment though. It turns out her father, Moody, did not go quietly into the night. White's brother, Michael Pate and sister in law, June Vincent had sped things along. Now they ride into North Fork to aid White in having an unfortunate accident. They want the entire ranch to themselves.

Connors and White have always liked each other and now it looks like it could be love. Will Connors ask the question, and will son Crawford accept White? Needless to say all plans are interrupted as Pate and Vincent make their move. Pate tries to smother White with a pillow but is stopped by the timely arrival of Connors. Vincent pulls iron and starts blasting, but plugs hubby Pate in error. Sheriff Paul Fix is called while Connors comforts White.

The next day, White continues on her trip to the ranch while Connors watches the stage roll out of sight. Will she return? Another watchable episode easily handled by veteran helmsman, Joseph H Lewis.

Murder mystery & romance!

Lucas in love! And rightly so, as this best friend of his decessed wife is equally sweet as she is gorgeous. A perfect mom for Mark, too. But these shows starred widowers (a widow in Big Valley) so there could be opportunities for romantic episodes, many, in Bonanza's case. But I'm sure most viewers were wishing Lucas would marry this lady, if not in this episode, then a future one.
