Ryker springs a hood for a hooker
pkfloydmh23 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This one is about Ryker's relationship with a hooker (played by Jane Actman) and how his empathy for her leads to a dreadful decision by him that results in a murder.

The focus is mostly on Ryker and his attempts to help out Laurie Phillips, the hooker, who the rookies suspect may resemble his long-lost daughter and that's why he befriended her. Her pimp Vic Dorsey (played by Richard Hatch) is in debt to some hoods and as repayment of that debt they tell him to spring a hood (Barney Dell) that is in a maximum security prison as they want to rub him out for double crossing them in a drug deal. Dorsey then goes to Phillips and tells her to ask Ryker to move Dell to a hospital so he can undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Phillips then talks to Ryker and despite pleas from Webster, he inexplicably agrees to move the prisoner to a hospital, where he is then killed by one of the hoods.

The problem I had is Ryker is not disciplined for this obvious misconduct. This was clearly a conflict of interest and it should have been reviewed by an independent person before moving the prisoner and the fact that Ryker acted on his own to move him just because a hooker asked him to is grounds for termination from the department and when that didn't happen, the episode lost all credibility for me.

There a couple of action scenes, including a pretty good fight scene in a hospital and a shootout at the end, but only Ryker is involved in the shootout and not the rookies.

Since Ryker didn't suffer any consequences for his actions, this episode just didn't cut it for me. He's really annoying anyways and the fact that the episode focused mostly on him is a big negative too. This is a terrible episode.
