Officer Terry Webster : [Terry looks directly at Jimmy]  What about the day after that?

Jimmy Webster : [Jimmy gazes back at Terry; he's unsure of what to answer]  I don't know. Maybe that little chick in the unemployment office had the right idea, huh?... Hey, Willie, you know any colleges anywhere that could teach me anything?

Officer Willie Gillis : [Willie smiles]  Sure. In fact, there's a little college in the Midwest that I know about. Probably teach you a few things.

Jimmy Webster : [Jimmy is skeptical. He reaches for his glass of orange juice]  Yeah, but will they take an ex-belly crawler?

Officer Willie Gillis : [Willie smiles again, as does Terry, who is leaning against Jimmy's raised bed]  Hey, that's their specialty. Want me to get you an application?

Jimmy Webster : [Jimmy nods his head and takes a sip of his juice]  Ok.

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry stands up straight and looks at Willie, then at Jimmy]  Gotta split... gotta report in.

[Terry and Willie turn to leave]

Jimmy Webster : [as Terry and Willie are walking out, Jimmy asks them one last question pertaining to his friends]  What about them?

[Terry and Willie both turn around and look questioning at Jimmy]

Jimmy Webster : Bridge, Walker. They're no different from me, man. 'Cept, maybe I've got somebody who cares.

Officer Willie Gillis : [Terry and Willie both look at Jimmy]  That's the difference... it means something.

Officer Terry Webster : We don't know yet what will happen with them. But whatever it is, they'll need a friend.

[Terry looks straight at Jimmy, silently urging him to grasp his meaning]

Jimmy Webster : You know, that's funny, ain't it?

    Officer Terry Webster : What?

Jimmy Webster : About how some guys don't become casualties until after the war is over.

Officer Terry Webster : [Terry, being the caring man and police officer he is, speaks in a very emotional, quiet voice. His eyes are half-closed and he's almost whispering]  Yeah... and some guys never get home, even though they've come back.

    [Terry looks at Jimmy meaningfully]

Officer Terry Webster : Welcome home.

[Terry reaches over and shakes Jimmy's hand, then he laughs]
