- Skipper was a sweet guy always attracted to women, who are looking for jerks. Skipper meets Carrie and tells her how he wants to support his girlfriend's careers, wants to spend more time with them. But they always give the same excuse while breaking up with him that they want to be alone, want to focus on their career and have nothing to give back to Skipper. This was Skipper's pattern. Everyone has a pattern and sooner or later, they revert to it. Carrie wonders if we are just dating the same person over and over again.
Carrie tries to make a relationship with her "Sex buddy" John McFadden (Dean Winters). Carrie reaches out to John after Big left, and they started having sex before the door was closed in her apartment. John was Carrie's pattern in between relationships. John is sweet, caring and uncomplicated. He is a real shot in the arm for Carrie's self-esteem. But this time Carrie decides to break the pattern. She tries to date him. But John is not a very interesting guy. Carrie didn't even have any idea of what John actually did for a living. John sells long distance telephone call time. John is tedious in real life. Carrie tries to make it work, but eventually realizes that it will only be about sex with John.
Miranda dates an abusive, condescending lawyer Kevin. He ordered her around and told her what to do. Miranda hated him everywhere, except in bed. Miranda goes crazy with pleasure when Kevin orders her around in bed. Carrie says maybe Miranda is attracted only to angry guys. Miranda gives him leeway since he is due to become partner at his law firm. Since this is a very stressful time for any person, Miranda believes he will ease up after the wait to become Partner is over. He finds out he has made partner a week later, but he is still angry and angry. He says that now he has to work 60 hours a week for the same money. He cannot enjoy his success even for a single second. Miranda dumps him. Miranda meets Skipper (Ben Weber) and he is angry at her for treating him like dirt. Miranda is super attracted to him.
Charlotte becomes a free-wheeling dater and double-books dates with two guys on the same night. She does that after the girls point out that her pattern is safety and the pattern of dating a single guy at a time. She likes her Yoga guy Eric (Jon Patrick Walker) but is late for her 2nd date. She pretends to have a sore throat. She dates an art loving commodities broker. While is kissing date #2, date #1 happens to pass by (he was bringing her soup for her sore throat), and Charlotte ends up losing both #1 and #2, as they end up sharing a cab uptown.
Samantha overhears the couple moaning next door and decides to outdo them. She starts pleasuring herself to out moan them. Samantha gets a note from the couple and is invited for a threesome.
