- TriviaMike Scully, the writer of the episode, based it on an experience in his childhood. Scully was twelve years old when he paid a visit to the Bradlees discount department store in West Springfield, Massachusetts. A "bunch of guys" were shoplifting at the store and they "pressured" Scully into shoplifting as well. He ended up getting caught outside, and "had one of the most traumatic moments" of his life. "To this day it still terrifies me", Scully said. He jokingly told Variety, "It's great to be paid for reliving the horrors of your life."
- GoofsHow did Bart get caught shop lifting when Nelson And Jimbo Jones both got away with it? The part of the store where the camera caught Bart is right where they both showed Bart stuff they were stealing.
- Quotes
Nelson Muntz: Shoplifting is victimless crime. Like punching someone in the dark.

MOMMM! BART's .........
Bart is caught shoplifting.
This is a solid episode with good character moments and an enjoyable cameo.
Marge Be Not Proud is a darkly funny episode that portrays some relatively serious moments for Bart and his relationship with Marge. I would not describe it as an overly strong warning against shoplifting, because the writers make everything work out fine for Bart after a minimum amount of effort and suffering. However, it does contain plenty of memorable moments like the spoilt brat who abuses his mother, the hilarious scenes with the Millhouses, and the brilliant sequence where the Simpson family build snowmen together.
Another highlight is Lawrence Tierney's voice performance and the store detective. This is a superbly realised character and Tierney is perfect for it.
