Okay episode.... nothing spectacular here
markymark704 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Greg Morris - remember him from Mission: Impossible? - guest stars as a pilot who crash lands in Africa whilst taking photographs in a designated no-go zone. Not wanting the African authorities to see American involvement in a potential war in Africa - Oscar sends Steve to recover the photos.

Morris though survives the crash and is taken in by two sisters (one of which has a huge crush on Dale Robertson - the actor). Steve finds Morris, repairs the plane and flies himself, Morris and the two sisters to safety.

Not much to it is there? A poor enough episode really of the SMDM as nothing really happens that is out of the ordinary. Sure Steve runs fast with Morris on a trailer (the slow-mo is not used here but instead an embarrassing Benny Hill like run across the field is shown) and carries a plane engine around on his shoulder. He also throws stones at the ensuing African army platoon - apparently they sound like falling missiles ??? Corny.

Steve not only repairs the plane and flies them out but somehow manages to set up a meeting on set with Dale Robertson for the star-crossed sister once they are back in the US.

If you were recommending the SMDM to anyone - then I wouldn't pick this particular episode as a good example of the show.

Steve's encounter with nuns.

Warning: Spoilers
Off beat episode with much silliness and many pleasures. Steve has to find a lost pilot in Africa and ends up being aided by some Flemish nuns with a passion for Dale Robertson! I enjoyed this one; probably not for everyone, though.

African Assignment

Steve Austin(Lee Majors) is assigned to find a downed pilot(played by Gregg Morris) who was flying over a no-flying zone in Africa to take top secret pictures. The pilot survives, and is taken care of by two nuns that Austin must also help after he repairs the plane and gets them all out of Africa before hostile forces kill them, and retrieve the wanted roll of film. Mundane episode where little of interest happens, and makes poor use of the show's premise, and Steve in particular. Not bad really, but the least the series had to offer this early on in its run. Lee Majors does the best he can to carry the episode to conclusion.

Do They Come In Black?
boscofl16 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Another hysterical outing from Season 1 that has more holes than Swiss cheese. Greg Morris (of "Mission: Impossible" fame) crash lands his US spy plane somewhere in a hostile section of Africa and Steve Austin is sent to rescue him. Along the way Steve enlists the aid of two nuns, rebuilds the wrecked plane using his bionic abilities and a car engine (I didn't know they taught that in the space program), eludes some very American-sounding African soldiers, and hurls rocks that whistle like incoming mortar shells. All the while he never breaks a sweat or dirties his leisure suit.

Here are some more enjoyable tidbits: Africa looks suspiciously like California. And in several scenes you can see the actors' breath as they breath. Steve parachutes into "Africa" wearing a black jumpsuit. When he emerges from the bushes after burying his gear he is clad in a nifty leisure suit (complete with corduroy jacket) a la James Bond in "Goldfinger." And he's supposed to be in sweltering Africa. Someone is constantly wheeling a gimpy Greg Morris around the hostile countryside on a donkey cart and they never get spotted. At one point Steve is supposedly using his bionic running abilities to propel them but the sped-up photography resembles a Benny Hill skit. The top belly laugh occurs late in the episode when Morris, having witnessed endless examples of Steve's self-proclaimed "improvements", inquires "Do they come in black?" Hilarious.
