Abysmal episode.

Warning: Spoilers
I found this to be an abysmal episode when compared to the usually high standards of Softly Softly Task Force.

This one features John Watt and Det Sgt Evans faced with the assault of a previously unheard of Det Sgt who gets attacked outside his home. He is in a coma so of no help in catching his assailants, it's all down to his cold fish of a wife (played by Shelagh Fraser).

We know from the off that this wife is cold as she hardly seems to care about her husband lying unconscious in their front garden, no screams and no rushing to his aid. DCS Watt has just returned from a conference and the incident is dropped in his lap. Immediately and in a totally unlikely manner, Watt gets an anonymous phone call that one of the villains who bashed the detective sergeant is a pimp named Mickey Blake. Watt and Evans pay him a visit and find him in bed with an underage girl...cue some DREADFUL acting by John White and Lesley Dunlop. Both are truly well over the top.

It turns out that the pimp was an informant for the detective sgt and innocent of putting him in a coma...the tip off phone call was made by a tailor who made the pimp's suits and as he was annoyed at not being paid, he made the bogus phone call to John Watt to get the pimp in trouble....you couldn't make it up.

The episode fizzles out to a nothing ending, a fitting way to end a nothing episode. Watt and Evans back in the office muttering that they'll find the villains by going through the paperwork (villains sent to jail by the comatose detective sergeant) cue the credits & end music.

If you watched this episode as someone new to the series, you might think that they were all this bad, but for the most part, the series employed much better guest actors and actresses and the stories were far more engaging.
