- The Enterprise addresses the emergency of an old Klingon ship coming out of stasis and ready to fight the Federation. A half-Human/half Klingon emissary arrives to help, who once knew Worf intimately.
- The Enterprise is ordered to an emergency rendezvous to collect a special envoy traveling from Starbase 153. They are given no information about the nature of the emergency, just that they will be briefed by the emissary on arrival. She is K'Ehleyr, a half-human/half-Klingon who has been sent to deal with the Klingon warship T'Ong that has been found in deep space with a crew in long-term stasis. They predate the current peaceful coexistence between the Federation and the Klingon Empire and, as far as they are concerned, the Klingon warriors aboard are still at war. Worf has a solution to dealing with the warriors. Meanwhile, it appears that K'Ehleyr has a history - and perhaps at one time a romance - with Lieutenant Worf.—garykmcd
- Starfleet observes extreme secrecy about the Enterpise's emergency mission, to be explained by a special emissary arriving most hastily by a small converted space capsule. It's female half-Klingon K'Ehleyr, who unlike Worf considers herself essentially human; however, the pair shares a complex relationship, with past frustrations and frustrating expectations. They must deal with Klingon captain K'Temoc's warship which, freshly out of stasis, is unaware that the war against humanity has ended. The envoy considers the mission a lost cause, but Picard demands an alternative solution, and Worf finds one.—KGF Vissers
- The Enterprise beams aboard an emissary from Starfleet Command, who informs them that a Klingon vessel - the T'Ong, whose crew has been in cryogenic sleep for almost a century - will awaken believing that they're still at war with the Federation. Reviving near unprotected Federation outposts, they would immediately attack. Unknown to the crew of the Enterprise, Worf and emissary K'Ehleyr - a half-human, half-Klingon female - were once linked romantically. Picard asks them to come up with a plan to stop the Klingon ship without bringing about their deaths. They argue, and K'Ehleyr storms out. K'Ehleyr goes to the Holodeck and blows off steam in Worf's calisthenics program - a battle against deadly aliens. Worf joins her for the exercise. Following victory and the resulting intimacy, Worf asks her to take the Klingon oath of marriage, which traditionally follows intimacy, but she refuses. As the Enterprise approaches the T'Ong, Worf has an idea and, dressed in full Klingon captain's regalia, presents himself to the T'Ong as the captain of the Enterprise. He convinces the Klingons that they are now all members of the Federation. As K'Ehleyr prepares to take command of the Klingon vessel, she and Worf reconcile their differences.—Michael W Hughes
- Worf is shown to be very good at poker. The Enterprise is ordered by Admiral Gromek (Georgann Johnson) to an emergency rendezvous to collect a special envoy traveling from Star base 153 and then proceed to specific coordinates just outside the Bordalis system. They are given no information about the nature of the emergency, just that they will be briefed by the emissary on arrival. There were no ships at Star base 153 available for transport, so the emissary is being transferred on a class 8 probe, which is just 2 meters long. The probe has enough room for just 1 person and is designed to travel at warp 9. By sending the emissary in a probe, rather than asking the Enterprise to collect him/her, the Enterprise was saved 6.1 hours in travel time. Picard understands that time is of the essence.
The emissary is K'Ehleyr (Suzie Plakson), a half-human/half-Klingon female who has been sent to deal with the Klingon warship T'Ong that has been found in deep space with a crew in long-term stasis. The ship went missing 75 years ago. Few days ago, the Klingon high command received a message that the ship has reached its destination and the crew is about to be awakened from stasis.
They predate the current peaceful coexistence between the Federation and the Klingon Empire and, as far as they are concerned, the Klingon warriors aboard are still at war. K'Ehleyr says it will not be possible to convince the Klingons on board that the war is over. A Klingon ship is also on its way, but it is 2 days behind and by then it might be too late. When the T'Ong awakens it will be within striking distance of several Federation outposts in this sector. There are 13 Federation colonies in this sector.
Diplomacy will not work. Enterprise will have to destroy the ship. Klingons of that era were raised to despise humans. Picard wants options and wants Worf to work with K'Ehleyr for the same. K'Ehleyr thinks there is no point to this and that this is waste of time.
It appears that K'Ehleyr has a history - and perhaps at one time a romance - with Lieutenant Worf. K'Ehleyr clearly has feelings for Worf and dresses up for him, but they can't agree on the strategy to deal with the T'Ong, and Worf tells her off. Worf says that they need more information on the T'Ong's mission to deal with their present threat, while K'Ehleyr contends that they have all the information they need. Worf says that there are always options and there is always more than one solution. K'Ehleyr takes her frustration out on the Holodeck in a Calisthenics program, while Worf is irritated towards his colleagues on the bridge. He joins K'Ehleyr in the Holodeck and after the program, they end up having sex. Worf wants to marry K'Ehleyr, but she says no and storms off. Worf believes that the Klingon traditions are sacred, but K'Ehleyr says that she is human. She will not marry Worf.
The Enterprise reaches the coordinates provided by Starfleet command and starts a search pattern. when Enterprise spots the T'Ong, their crew is already awake. They phaser the Enterprise and cloak themselves, but Geordi finds a way to track them since the old shields are not good at blocking GAMMA ray outputs. Worf has a solution to dealing with the warriors. Enterprise blocks the T'Ong and presents Worf as the captain of the ship. Worf tells the Klingons that the war is over, and the Klingons won. He asks them to drop shields or to be killed. The Klingons comply. K'Ehleyr is sent to take command of the T'Ong. K'Ehleyr says she loves Worf and leaves.
