- With a new commander of the SGC comes a new leader of SG-1, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, a former fighter pilot who flew an F-302 in the battle over Antarctica. - Col. Cameron Mitchell arrives at the SGC to join SG-1 only to learn that he is to lead the elite unit. There's only one problem: everyone associated have moved on or are about to do so. Sam is now working on a scientific project at Area 51; Daniel will soon be on his way to Atlantis; Teal'c is working with the free Jaffa to establish a government; and O'Neill has been promoted. Daniel begins to reconsider when Vala Mal Doran arrives with a tablet suggesting the existence of a large treasure somewhere on Earth. The exact location of this treasure is not specified but does make reference to an Ancient who returned to Earth and took the name Merlin. However, she lures Daniel and puts alien bracelets on hers and his wrists, and they become connected to each other. Soon, they learn that they must be close to each other. Daniel loses his transportation on Daedalus to Atlantis, translates the tablet, and concludes that the treasure is hidden in a cave in England. He's free to recruit it all over, but finds most candidates unsuitable and wants the veterans to stay, but Sam joined Area 51, Daniel moves to Atlantis and Teal'c to the newly formed Jaffa Nation's High Council. Suddenly, the Stargate is activated and Vala Mal Doran arrives, who insists to deal with Daniel, who must translate an Ancient tablet, referring to a major treasure hidden on earth. By putting on both of them magical bracelets, she forces him to join the quest for what the tablet suggests to be priceless and at Avalon, located in England, finally pinpointed to an cave using clues and modern technology.
