Hutch's girlfriend Gillian played by Karen Carlson was at the time David Soul's wife. It is also interesting to remark that the previous title, which aired exactly 14 days prior, co-starred Lynne Marta, whom Soul was also dating. The dates are unclear but, considering he never married Marta, and Carlson divorced him the following year, it very likely that he was carrying on with Marta while married to Carlson. David Soul found beautiful (or tall) blondes) irresistible.
When Gillian (Karen Carlson) arrives at her apartment and is asked by Mr. Grossman about her date she replays her date was Robert Redford. Karen Carlson was Robert Redford's love interest in the movie "The Candidate" (1972)
Interesting shot: When Hutch is at the "adult" portion of the "store", and he is holding a tight fist on a man's shirt, notice the photo above and behind Hutch: it is a black and white photo of a woman with long, black hair, holding onto a man with her arm outstretched. She is in the exact same position as Hutch in the forefront. In case anyone missed it, the production even added a huge yellow arrow smack on that vintage photo, pointing straight down at Hutch. Perhaps the production was having some not so subtle fun and winking at the fans.
At the end, Hutch says he comes from Minnesota.
Starsky is reading a newspaper that mentions the "army moving in at the Battle of Beirut". This is a nod to the bloody massacre in Beirut during the Lebanese war.
