- Lana Lang: Mr. Manfred, they lost their food in the fire. You've got so much, I was thinking maybe you could give some to them?
- Gerald Manfred: What are you doing here? You don't look like you belong with them.
- Lana Lang: My name is Lana Lang. I'm researching the problems for the homeless for my political science class.
- Gerald Manfred: Why don't you take them back to your political science class and feed them?
- Clark Kent: Can I quote you on that, Mr. Manfred?
- Gerald Manfred: Who the hell are you?
- Clark Kent: Let's just say I'm with the press. T.J., get a shot of Mr. Manfred.
- Gerald Manfred: [shielding his face] If he takes another picture of me, break his camera.
- Damon: I sure couldn't do it, Mr. Manfred. I'd be awake all night, unable to sleep, remembering all those hungry faces staring at me. But after all, business is business.
- Gerald Manfred: Look at you. A beach bum! What do you know about business?
- Damon: I have my MBA from the University of California. I've been vice president of three different corporations. Do you want me to go on?
- Cop: [entering with Lana] I caught her snooping.
- Lana Lang: Damon!
- Gerald Manfred: Ms. Political Science. Put her in the back office.
- Damon: I wanna thank you.
- Clark Kent: Don't thank me. Thank T.J. and Lana. I-I didn't do anything.
- Damon: That's not true, Clark. You took the first step of the solution to the problem of the homeless.
- Clark Kent: What's that?
- Damon: You noticed that we exist.
- Damon: That, my friends, is Gerald Manfred. Mr. Conglomerate.
- [loudly so Manfred can hear]
- Damon: He's the reason that we're here, homeless!
- Gerald Manfred: Why don't you take your people someplace else?
- Damon: There he is, my people. He was not born to shame. Upon his brow, shame is ashamed to sit!
- Clark Kent: We know where Damon is, but where's everybody else?
- Alice: Where they always are at this time. Out hunting for jobs. Any kind of jobs. And looking for food. Even begging for it. I can't imagine what it does to your spirit to beg. But sometimes, you just have to.
- Clark Kent: I know you don't have any money, but don't you have friends, relatives, somebody that can help?
- Alice: None of us are from around here. We've come from all over on the promise of jobs.
- Lana Lang: Obviously, you didn't get them. Who promised these jobs?
- Alice: Our savior, Mr. Manfred. He was going to re-open a factory. Television sets, tape recorders, that's what we all worked on before the industry went sour in America.
- Clark Kent: What happened? Why didn't he open it?
- Alice: He built a factory in Korea instead.
- T.J. White: [sardonc] So much for "Made in the USA."
