Deputy US Marshall Frank Dalton (1859-1887) was killed by a horse thief. After Frank's death, Bob Dalton (1869-1892) became a Deputy Marshall. In 1890, Bob became an outlaw, along with his brothers Grat (1861-1892) and Emmett (1871-1937). On 5 Oct 1892, the three brothers and two other men tried to make history by robbing two banks at the same time in Coffeyville, Kansas. The Daltons were recognized by townspeople who armed themselves against the gang; four gang members and four townsmen were killed.
