The Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889 took place on 22 Apr 1889 at noon. An estimated 50,000 people lined up to get a share of about 2 million acres. Oklahoma got its nickname "The Sooner State" because of the number of people who went into the Territory early, picked a piece of land, and hid until the legal time to lay claim to the property.
