The silver dollar coin that U.S. Consul James Wade (actor Raymond Bailey) hands to Bill Longley is a Seated Liberty Dollar. Those coins were produced from 1840 through 1873; they were 90% silver and 10% copper. The Seated Liberty was the first United States silver dollar struck to the physical standards of modern U.S. dollar coins.
