Darren McGavin!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm an old Carl Kolchak fan. Anything with Darren in it is a treat! I didn't even recognize him at first. It wasn't till he started talking that I knew who he was. It's because of his role in the Night Stalker series, which I used to watch with my Dad in the 70's, that I first ever imagined carrying a recorder with me everywhere I go, which I do to this day, for over 25 years now!

This was a touching little episode where they made Monica elderly so she could better gain the trust of George, who didn't believe anyone younger than he could properly appreciate someone at his stage in life. He ultimately fell in love with her, and she had feelings for him as well, so much so that her elderly heart was pained when she had to tell him that she couldn't be with him because she was an angel.

After a lot of truths came out from George and other characters that day, it was time for Monica to leave. She met him one last time on the park bench where they first met.

In the end, when he kissed her hand as if to say farewell forever, and Monica herself was sad after having been touched by his affection, something happened that I have not seen in this series before. She disappeared while he was still holding her hand and he looked around in disbelief, only to see the white dove flying away. What a moment!!!! Like waking from a dream!

This show keeps on amazing!!!

Monica is transformed into an elderly woman in order to befriend an 80 year old war veteran called George (played by Darren McGavin), who keeps being kicked out of care homes, and is on his seventh.

They form a close bond and George ends up falling in love with Monica, but she cannot reciporate his feelings, because she is an angel and not a mortal being.

Meanwhile, Tess is dealing the manager of the care home (guest star Christina Pickles), who is cold and hostile towards the residents.

Andrew is the resident cook whose best effort at a meal is cheese and crackers.

This episode had me in tears twice. If you are hopeless romantic like me, you will enjoy this episode.
