Poor Colonel Foster...
planktonrules4 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This particular episode is a flashback--having apparently occurred six months earlier. For some odd reason, Moonbase keeps periodically losing its ability to make and receive transmissions back to Earth. This places them at a much greater risk for attack and it's imperative that they discover why this is occurring. One possibility is that a nearby base on the moon that is owned by Daloatek might, somehow, be accidentally be doing something that might cause these outages. What really is happening is something different altogether.

There is an interesting subplot as well. During the course of meetings with Dalotek's moon base, Colonel Foster falls for a lady who works for this organization. However, their budding romance is doomed--as you'll find out about if you see this interesting episode.

Overall, a pretty good episode and yet another one well worth seeing.

The Dalotek Affair
Prismark1018 December 2019
There is a private organisation with a small research base on the moon called Dalotek.

When the SHADO loses radio contact with their Moonbase, they think Dalotek are to blame. However UFO and meteor activity has left a device on the crater which is causing the interference.

It starts off interestingly enough. You have an interview with Dr Stranges on UFOs. The story is told by Colonel Foster in flashback when he sees a familiar and pretty face called Jane Carson. Foster knows her but she does not recall him. Carson was a Dalotek employee on the moon.

I had several issues with the episode. For some reason it never flows well and it is something I have felt the same about other episodes of UFO. I always seem to drift off. You are led to believe that Dalotek might be involved in the lost of radio contact but you see that weird UFO activity and that device left behind. There is little tension.

Secondly Straker is really grouchy here. He is giving Foster a hard time for no reason, especially as we have learned that Foster is a newbie in SHADO. How the hell is anyone going to figure out what the aliens are up to. I just put that down to poor writing.

You'll never get an episode like this nowadays. Well Carson I'm going to wine you, dine you and romance you. Then you will take this amnesia drug and forget everything!

Clumsy, poorly structured episode
lor_11 August 2023
Unusual segment has a fake ("documentary") tv interview introducing the show, with a UFO expert from America discussing the phenomenon and quoting RFK to make the subject seem "real". Then at a swinging '60s-styled party Billington and Sewell recall The Dalotek Affair, unfolding the story in flashback.

Dalotek is a private mining company on the moon, dealing with a communications failure after a failed UFO attack nearby and a meteorite hit. Dealing with this private company is Billington's central matter, and he almost has a romantic relationship with Dalotek's Tracy Reed.

Convoluted structure of the scene and its double-intro format are lousy. It almost plays like a spoiled pilot show for the Dalotek crew, as other than Billington (who is telling the flashback from his POV) the cast and crew of Ed's team is downplayed.
