David Hogan : Um, I want to talk to you about a friend of mine named Rich. Uh, when I first found out that Rich had AIDS, I was angry. I mean, how could life be so unfair? Then I was afraid. I was afraid that if I got too close, I might get it. But that was stupid. I've done a lot of reading since then, and I'm here to tell you that you can't get AIDS by eating with someone who has the disease. You can't get it if you use the same bathroom as an AIDS patient, or if that person hugs you or touches you, or if you hug them back. But you can get AIDS through sexual contact. So, if you're gonna do it, try to use a latex condom and just follow the proper guidelines toward safer sex. And remember that you can't tell someone's infected just by looking at them, and don't be fooled into thinking that just because you're straight, you can't get it because it can happen to anyone. It happened to my friend Rich. I want you to know how much the time that I spent with him over the last three months means to me. We got closer than we ever have been, and, uh, he helped me with my film project and taught me there are a lot more important things to life than just shooting a documentary. But we still managed to laugh and have fun, even when we were working. I was there for him when he needed me the most and we were there for each other, making the most of every moment and remembering all the good times. Rich died last night, and, uh, he wasn't famous, and he didn't change the world. He was just a regular guy that let me into his life, and for that, I'll always be grateful. He was my friend, and, uh, I loved him, and I'll always miss him. Thank you.
