An average offering

Hedy Lamarr stars in this episode as a younger woman, Consuela 'Connie' Bowers, running a ranch with her handicap father. She is a headstrong woman that runs the ranch with authority. Inside their barn they have a prize stallion that is the envy of everyone around. And it just so happens that there's a group of people that want to steal the horse but Connie and her father have a guard on the horse to prevent any theft.

A drifter, Frank, comes riding by and gets Connie out of trouble with a few of the roughs that has eyes on the stallion. Frank then goes and has supper with the Bowers and is offered a job. But little does the Bowers know that Frank is actually working for the people that want the horse. Frank is going to work on the theft from the inside. But he did not think about falling for the young Connie.

This episode was a plot that has been played out many times in the past. There really was nothing remarkable about this show and played out nearly as expected. Hedy Lamarr was approaching the end of her great career and still looked as lovely as ever. Even though the acting in the program was excellent, it was the story that was lacking action. This was average offering as we get into the meat of the second season of the series.

Nice Hedy Lamarr Performance

Warning: Spoilers
I had heard of Zane Grey Theatre, but never saw it until Dish Network started offering Grit Network ( now I am a fan). I really liked the 'Proud Woman' episode. It is about Consuela ( Connie) Bowers ( Lamarr) who plays a very tough Mexican-American ranch owner who is acts like a man, and is harsh on everyone she works with ( which.is why people quit on her). She is basically a combination of Barbara Stanwyck's Vance Jeffords in 'The Furies' and 'Madeleine Stowe's Cody Zamora in 'Bad Girls'. Her parents want her to get married but all she loves is the ranch. Spoilers ahead: She meets Frank who pretends to help save her from two crooks who want to steal a prized horse from the family. Frank is really a drifter and gunman, who was hired by the crooks. The horse has prized bloodlines, but is considered "El Diablo" A devil horse no one can ride and put Connie's father in a wheelchair ( Oddly.enough the horse seems to like Frank). The horse actually works as a metaphor for Connie herself: Cannot be tamed and is unhappy. Connie's father even said she is unhappy. Of course, Frank falls for Connie, changes sides, and tells her father the truth..Then the crooks go to steal the horse, and Frank and Connie try and stop them. They succeed but Connie gets shot. At the end, Frank tries to carry her away, but she says " I will not get treated like a sack of beans." Frank ignores her and tells her he is ignoring her and why. In the final shot, you see Connie finally smiling as Frank carries her to the house to get fixed up. In the end, Frank wins Connie and probably the horse as well. 9/10starshad
