Kabir Khan’s ’83 recreating the events leading up to India’s victory in the cricket World Cup Series is one of the most talked-about films in recent times. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone who play legendary cricketer Kapil Dev and his wife Romi are hoping to leap one-up on their hat-trick of Bhansali-helmed superhits—Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Will 83 break the records of Ranveer-Deepika’s earlier blockbusters? Here’s why 83 is one of the eagerly awaited films of the year.
1. It is cricket. It’s religion in India. Not since Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan has a film on cricket been so eagerly awaited by the movie-going public. As director Kabir Khan said , this is the proudest film he has made to date. Coming from the director of Kabul Express, New York, Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, ’83 being the most special film of his career is truly a confession worth underlining.

Kabir Khan came from a documentary setup and was an expert documentary filmmaker before he jumped into films. His first film, Kabul Express, starring John Abraham and Arshad Warsi reflected that sensibility. His next film was New York that seemed slightly more commercial. It is a known fact that Sultan is one of Ali Abbas Zafar's most ambitious projects. And now, in order to pay a sort of tribute to the ones under whom the filmmaker has learnt the art of direction, he decided to rope in Kabir Khan and Vijay Krishna Acharya for Sultan. Kabir Khan who has directed films like Kabul Express and Ek Tha Tiger for Yash Raj Films and Vijay Krishna Acharya who directed Tashan and Dhoom 3 for the same banner, will be seen in cameos for Sultan, which is also produced by Yrf. Ali Abbas Zafar who has assisted both of them previously in their films, decided to do this as a goodwill gesture. However, the details of their roles in the film are yet to be known. Kabir Khan, easily one of the hottest directors on the scene today, is all set to begin work on his next biggie. He has signed his next film with Eros International which is expected to go on floors next year. Confirms our source, "After the all time blockbuster success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir is easily amongst the top 5 directors of the country today. His success rate has been quite phenomenal as he is the only one other than Rajkumar Hirani (Pk, 3 Idiots) to have given a triple century (Bajrangi Bhaijaan) and a double century (well, almost, as Ek Tha Tiger had done 199 crores). His next movie had to be special as well." During the last couple of years, Kabir Khan hadn't signed any new film as he was concentrating entirely on Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom. With both films seeing almost back to back releases this year, he is now beginning...

Now that's what you call a thrilling beginning indeed. 100 days before the release of Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Phantom, a book which tells the thrilling tale has hit the stands. Call it coincidental or deliberate but the book has been interestingly titled, hold your breath, Mumbai Avengers. A 'factional' tale that mergers fiction with facts, the book is being pitched as 'Retribution for 26/11'. It deals with a covert mission led by a Retired Lt Gen. of the Indian Army who puts together a team of daredevil agents comprising of a sharp policemen, a suave tech expert, a cerebral scientist and two battle-hardened army officers. Although the trailer of Welcome To Karachi does remind us of Arshad Warsi's 2006 film Kabul Express, the actor made it very clear that both films are like chalk and cheese.
"Welcome To Karachi is very different from Kabul Express. Each film has its own space. Welcome To Karachi is funny and in a space where we haven't tried to say anything big. It is not political but fun. Kabul Express was political. It was very heavy," stated the actor.
Directed by Ashish Mohan, Welcome To Karachi also stars Jackky Bhagnani and Lauren Gottlieb. It is scheduled to release on 21st May, 2015.

The region of Shekhawati in North Rajasthan famous for its lavish havelis, became host to Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and director Kabir Khan who descended on this sleepy historical region on Sunday morning. Apparently, Shekhawati has none of the amenities that Salman and Kareena are used to. Says a source from the location, "Salman Khan is used to roughing it out. He can survive even on basic necessities. But for Kareena who lives lavishly in the lap of luxury, Shekhawati is a far cry from her Begum's lifestyle." Adds the source, "Not that Kareena has not roughed it out during her outdoors. She shot at the Indo-Pak border for her first film Refugee. And she shot in some really rugged terrain for Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met in places where they didn't have proper hotels. But Shekhawati is a different experience. It is a very ethnic Rajasthani region. Mumbai, Nov 15: For his film "Kabul Express" Kabir Khan went to shoot in Kabul and via "New York" he took the audience on a tour to the hotspots of New York City. His upcoming action-thriller "Phantom" captures Beirut but the director says he doesn't consciously pick unique locations.

"Most of my films have revolved around international politics. So the locations you have seen so far in 'Ek Tha Tiger' and 'Kabul Express' were organic to the film's narrative.

Katrina Kaif is currently shooting in Beirut, Lebanon for Sajid Nadiadwala’s next production. Katrina, who flew out at the weekend, was rumoured to be jetting off to see Ranbir Kapoor, but these rumours have been shot down by a friend of the actress who said, “This image of a love-struck kitten who follows her loved one everywhere he goes is just not Katrina. She truly resents the attempt to make her appear like a love-lorn Radha chasing her Krishna.“

Having directed three films for Yash Raj Films, Kabir Khan has moved on. His next directorial venture would be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
Putting this significant movement on-record, Kabir says, "Yes, my next film is not produced by Yashraj but Sajid Nadiadwala. Aditya Chopra (at the helm of Yash Raj) and I have worked together on three very important films. I've enjoyed my association with Adi and Yash Raj thoroughly. And I'd love to do another film with Yash Raj in future. But my next film is for Sajid Nadiadwala."
Not willing to reveal too many details of the project, Kabir says it would not be bereft of a socio-political backdrop. "It will be a fun film. But it will have a socio-political perspective. I don't think I can make a film that would be called mindless entertainment. At the same time, my cinema has a high entertainment value... or so I'd like to think.

Filmmaker Kabir Khan says Salman Khan’s presence in “Ek Tha Tiger” will bring in the initial footfalls, but the film’s content and direction will sustain it thereafter.
“I feel the film has stamina to run for a very long time. I hope the film goes way beyond the opening which is dependent on Salman. After that it is me and the film that I have made. I feel it has the strength to go a long way,” said Kabir Khan.
Ek Tha Tiger, releasing Aug 15, is his third directorial venture after “Kabul Express” and “New York”. The movie, in which Salman plays a spy, also features his former lady love Katrina Kaif, making it one of the much-awaited films of the year.
The first look of the film was also widely appreciated. The buzz has led several multiplexes to cash in on its popularity by reportedly hiking ticket prices 10-15 percent.

Over four years back when John Abraham had seen good success coming his way in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, he was all praise for the film's director Vivek Agnihotri. However, the two are now finding each other on a war path, what with their films clashing with each other at the box office. "Yes, it's true", confirms a trade expert, "On the same day when Vivek is bringing his Hate Story, John has announced his debut production Vicky Donor as well. It's a rather surprising development since former was announced first. However, now that the plans have been finalised, it is inevitable that John and Vivek would find themselves in an uncomfortable position." When Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal had released, it had given John Abraham his biggest opening ever for a solo starrer. Though he had enjoyed success before with the likes of multistarrers like Dhoom, Kaal and Kabul Express to name a few,...

Actor John Abarahm believes that the way Dostana helped people shed their inhibitions about homosexuality, his maiden home production Vicky Donor will give the issue of sperm donation a lot of credibility..Sperm donation, which is a taboo for a lot of people, is going to be treated with a lot of credibility once this (Vicky Donor) happens,. the 39-year-old said here at the launch of the first look of the film..When we did Dostana, there was a section that said people won.t accept homosexuality, but Dostana worked like magic. Today if you see two men holding hands, people tease them using the Dostana tag..If Dostana has worked, I am sure Vicky Donor will work too. It is a very credible film. There are no adult jokes, it.s not perverse.it.s a clean film, a lovely film. It.s my first production, so I will...

Mumbai, Feb 28: Just when one thought John Abraham has left behind his experimental phase of "No Smoking" and "Kabul Express", the actor has agreed to work in "Jaffna", a political thriller about Ltte's activities in Sri Lanka.
The film will be directed by Shoojit Sircar, who has just wrapped up the shooting of "Vicky Donor", which is his breezy satire on sperm donation, featuring veejay Ayushmaan in the lead. And John has co-produced the film.
"John is a politically aware actor. He reads the newspaper every morning, knows what's going on in the world. He is clued in to the dynamics of the separatist strife in Sri Lanka..

Director Kabir Khan is busy panning his camera across Istanbul, where he has gone to shoot Yash Raj Films' (Yrf) 'Ek Tha Tiger', starring former off screen couple Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
'Tiger has landed in Istanbul... Schedule 2 begins. Stunning Istanbul... perfect backdrop for the Tiger in action,' Khan, who had earlier directed 'Kabul Express' and 'New York', posted on Twitter.
Yrf had released a one-of-its-kind digital poster for the movie in August. The poster pans into a wide view of a populated city, and gradually depicts a silhouette of a well-built man with a scarf flying from his neck. But Khan clarifies.

Yash Raj Films is certainly on a roll with new projects. Not only do we have the Yash Chopra comeback film to look forward too, we have Dhoom 3, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and the just ready to go to the floor Ek Tha Tiger. Directed by Kabir Khan, with a story by Aditya Chopra, Ek Tha Tiger brings together a very exciting jodi of Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan.
The director is known for his more serious work in Kabul Express and New York, but now he says he is going in a different direction for Ek Tha Tiger. “While Kabul Express and New York had to be narrated in a certain style, they couldn’t have been flamboyant or over stated. I think I can afford to do that in Ek Tha Tiger. It is not just the starcast but also the story which is larger than life.

Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi, who would be a part of three sequels - ''Double Dhamaal'', ''Munnabhai'' series and ''Ishqiya'' - personally does not like the idea of sequels and finds them monotonous. "For me as an actor, I don''t like it (sequels). I prefer to do different things. It is like eating the same food everyday... nobody likes it. It becomes monotonous. It is a demarcation of things for me - like I do certain work that people like me to and some work that I like to do," Arshad told Pti. "''Dhamaal'', ''Golmaal'' and ''Munnabhai'' are films that people like and I will keep doing them... as long as there are sequels. ''Ishqiya'', ''Zeher'', ''Kabul Express'' are those films that I like to do." The actor will be seen next in Indra Kumar''s comic caper ''Double Dhamaal'',...

Before we jump ahead, the former couple Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif have both agreed to star in Kabir Khan's next film. Kabir Khan, who directed Kabul Express and the hit film New York, had initially zeroed in on Salman Khan for the lead, but was without a leading lady until now.
There was much speculation over who the leading lady might be for this film. Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were apparently in the running for this plum role.
A source close to the film stated, "But obviously, the role suits Katrina better. Moreover, having worked with Kabir Khan, she is Kabir's favourite; they share a very good equation."
Things are looking up for Kaif, who has managed to land two great projects with both the two warring Khans. She has also been signed to a film directed by the Romance King Yash Chopra opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

Though Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have worked with Yash Raj Films and will be seen in their forthcoming films as well, Salman Khan had never worked with the Numero Uno production house to date. Of course, there were occasions in the past when the Chopras and the actor had discussed a project or two, but for reasons best known to them, the projects couldn't materialize. But the two parties are likely to shake hands on a new project which will be directed by Kabir Khan. News is out that Kabir, who has directed Kabul Express and New York for Yrf, is keen on casting Salman for this film. But here's the true picture: Salman hasn't signed on the dotted line yet. Sure, Salman has agreed in principle, but till the Chopras and Salman put their signatures on paper after working out the modalities, it wouldn't be right to say that he's officially on.
