She's just disappointed that Walter's not there so she can make her grand entrance, so everybody has to wait until he gets back. But she can't wait and neither can they, and indeed, Maude is beautiful, as was Bea Arthur naturally even though a lot of sitcom jokes were made at her expense.
The conclusion of the second two-part episode of the season is both funny and touching, especially when Walter makes his entrance, seeing only Maude's backside. even then, he's hugging her so much that he doesn't even look at her face and that makes the audience frustrated as well to see his reaction. Since he's the only one who didn't know the real reason why she went away, he doesn't even notice it, and that means war.
Even though for the family and friends there to see Walters non-reaction is a disappointment, it leads to all sorts of funny possibilities, and that's what makes the episode all the more well done. To show Maude as so strong and outwardly confidant to be insecure about her looks adds real dimensions to the character.
