Denzel Washington will be honored with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles' Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the 2007 BAFTA/LA Cunard Britianna Awards set for Nov. 1 at the Century Plaza Hotel.
"Denzel is a remarkably talented actor who always entertains the audience with the rich array of characters that he has portrayed onscreen," BAFTA/LA chairman Peter Morris said. "As both an actor and director he continually takes on challenging projects, and we are thrilled to honor and celebrate his immense talents."
Washington will next appear in Universal Pictures' American Gangster, directed by Ridley Scott and also starring Russell Crowe.
He also will direct and star with Forest Whitaker in The Great Debaters, a drama based on the true story of Melvin Tolson, a professor at Whiley College Texas, who in 1935 inspired students from the school's debate team to challenge Harvard in the national championship.
Winners of two Academy Awards for Training Day and Glory, Washington also has been nominated for his work in The Hurricane, Malcolm X and Cry Freedom. His credits also include Deja Vu, Man of Fire, The Manchurian Candidate, Remember the Titans, John Q, He Got Game, and Antwone Fisher, which also was his directorial debut.
