After Ward laments about the rusty status of their two trash cans, Wally offers to paint them. Ward, wanting to give Wally a sense of responsibility, agrees but wants to pay Wally for his efforts, a fair amount which Wally can decide. They agree to $1. Ward and Wally have some difficulty in the timing, as Ward forgets to buy the paint one day after a hard day at the office, and Wally goes off to play baseball the next day when Ward does buy the paint. By that time, Eddie has convinced Wally that the job is worth $3, what Mr. Haskell paid a professional to do the same job. As such, Wally, mentioning the new fee only as something that Mr. Haskell did, tells his parents that he will do the job when he feels like it, and not when they tell him to do it. Wanting to do the job, Beaver offers to do it for nothing, but Ward feels that Beaver should get paid what he would have paid Wally: $1. Beaver doesn't tell Wally of this new agreement. So Wally is incensed when he finds Beaver painting the cans the next day. And Ward comes to the realization that the job is too big for Beaver. Can Beaver, Wally and Ward come to a new agreement that will satisfy all the parties? June ultimately makes a unilateral decision of her own in the matter.
