Looks great, but is missing about 75 minutes
Vivness30 November 2008
I felt I had to write this review, simply because everyone who wrote one so far absolutely LOVED the movie. But why? I will say this, Cosa Bella really looks very good. It looks like a big Hollywood movie (and I mean that as a compliment for a change) and it has cool camera work and editing and music (Sia's "Breathe Me" is in there). And yet, the whole story looks like it was cut out of a feature film. It doesn't seem like a short film - it seems like a work in progress. Which is such a shame! If this were a feature film, one that lets you actually get close to the characters, take part in their development, and then still have the same scenes with the same great music and great camera work and dialog, it would probably be excellent. I would love it. I would feel with the characters, laugh with them, cry with them, root for them. But this way, the film is just a sad (albeit good-looking) reminder of what could've been.

Having said that, it certainly seems like Fiona MacKenzie is going to do great things in the future.

Little beyond sexuality and sensuality

Warning: Spoilers
"Cosa Bella" is despite the title an American English-language short film from 2006, so this one is already over a decade old and still it is among the most known career effort from several people working on these 14 minutes, including writer and director Fiona Mackenzie. But there are also cast members who have made it, maybe not big, but they are enjoying successful careers. Co-lead Stephanie Szostak was in Iron Man 3 for example and as something much bigger than an extra. Now back to this one here. A look at the right side here on IMDb tells you already that the defining component for this film today is the lesbian aspect and I cannot deny it is appealing to watch as a straight male especially with one of the two lead actresses being pretty gorgeous, so I am a bit surprised the film got way better ratings from females. Maybe they are lesbians too? Sadly, the story in terms of depth and character development never manages to dig deep and make any kind of difference whatsoever. This is about a woman in a marriage to a man, who enters into an affair with a woman and is not sure what she really wants, especially if telling the lesbian woman, who has really fallen for her, to stay out of her life is indeed what she really wants. Audiences may know the answer before the protagonist does. Overall, it's okay to watch at a quarter of an hour, but I think you can skip it too and you won't be missing much as I felt it was truly mediocre and forgettable as a whole. From what I saw here, I am not surprised Mackenzie did not manage a breakthrough. Watch something else instead.

Cosa Bella is a real love story for our time.

Cosa Bella is a real love story for our time. The story is completely thought out and brought to the screen in a manner that left me grateful for being permitted to enter the lives of these women. The characters (and the sexy actresses who play them) are ones that I would tune-in to watch on a regular basis on television, or pay to see their stories explored more fully in a feature length film. The film's writer/director has an amazing ability for bringing authenticity to the screen. Moreover, the high production value carries the film into the realm of the truly sublime. I highly recommend this film to anyone in search of a tale that tugs relentlessly at the heart strings.

Rendirse al Amor

It had been a while I hadn't seen any short film with a gay content that I liked, but luckily "Cosa Bella" came to my hands and I actually loved it!. It's great to see characters that are realistic and not stereotypes. Both protagonists are great, and specially the actress Alexie Gilmore who plays Belle. I recommend "Cosa Bella" to anybody that has ever fallen in love with the wrong person, to anybody that has fallen in love with the right person but in the wrong time, to anybody that has fallen in love with the right person at the right time but have not been corresponded, and..........to everybody, because sooner or later you'll end up surrendering to love. Don't run..., don't hide..., Love Will Get You! :)

well worth the quick watch!

i saw this movie at outfest in LA and it definitely rose to the top in the shorts presentation. compact, but still effective, the feature quality short goes a long way to prove that you do not need 120 minutes or a multi-million dollar budget to craft an absorbing movie experience.

the storyline is thoughtful and intelligent and it's beautifully directed and shot.

and luckily the two lead actresses are not only gorgeous and easy to watch, but deliver solid performances full of depth and emotion too.

well worth the quick watch!

Cosa Bella a

Wonderful short film. It should be developed into a feature or series. Fiona has put together a real heart tugging circle of characters. I want to see more. The actors, the camera work, the timing, the edit, the music all splendid. The cast never missed a beat. Such truthful performances. Perfect casting. Fiona's discovery should be further milked. The choices made every step of the way show signs of brilliant team work. The slick camera work never calls attention to itself. It is elegant. Lovely crisp imagery. Vivid. Every shot showed creativity and mastery over the art of directing. Signs of a truly talented film maker. Very impressed.

modern day love - it's complicated!
k_kuller7 August 2006
Beautifully rendered tale about the headiness and painfulness that can come with being swept up in sudden intense and seemingly impossible love. Both actresses do a fine job of capturing the range of emotion that exists within that very thin between love and hate - when someone has the power to turn your world inside out, despite yourself. The script is strong with snippets of dialog that realistically encapsulates each characters' inner turmoil - and heavy silences that sometimes speak louder than words. Altogether, Cosa Bella is a professional production complete with great music that helps set the tone for different scenes, great acting all around, a believable yet original storyline, and studio-level filming/editing. I am glad I had the chance to see it when it came to NYC, and now find myself eagerly awaiting the feature!!

AMAZING movie
timthescienceguy31 July 2006
Cosa Bella is, as the title suggests, very beautiful, indeed! It is a sensitive, bitter-sweet short about the psychological and emotional struggles that two lovers face at a turning point in their relationship. Although the source of the primary dilemma (commitment) is very familiar to any viewer, how it gets played out is quite unique, poignant, and touching. How can a person, at one moment, declare her true love for her lover and fight for the relationship with all that she has and, at the next moment, be dancing and flirting with some random person or other on the dance floor, all the while ignoring her lover? If you'd like to know, please watch Cosa Bella! Fiona MacKenzie's writing and directing are beyond reproach and she produced the entire movie for a fraction of what its quality would suggest. All of the actors are tops (the two leads also appeared in 'The Devil Wears Prada'). I give this short my highest recommendation! What are you waiting for? Go see Cosa Bella!!

Cosa Bellisima

I don't know what's about this film, perhaps' the girls or the photography, the whole story, how it's filmed, but I just love it.

I can't stop watching it and every time I find something new to watch.

I LOVE short films, because I do believe you can tell a story in a few minutes, but this one takes that to the extreme.

And it's not just one thing -yes, the girls are awesome-, it's the whole thing.

It's been filmed in NY -or pretends to be there-. I don't know why, most of the American movies I like happens in NY.

I can just tell you one thing about this movie: If you haven't watched it yet, DO IT KNOW, you'll love it.

It's Just lovely!
