For one family in England, a move to a new home in rural Somerset initially brings out the best in their treatment of each other, but the walls housing their newfound harmony have perilous plans in store. The house in Kim Newman’s new novel, An English Ghost Story, is not “home sweet home” material, and readers can experience moving day in the exclusive excerpt provided to us by Titan Books.
“A dysfunctional British nuclear family seek a new life away from the big city in the sleepy Somerset countryside. At first their new home, The Hollow, seems to embrace them, creating a rare peace and harmony within the family. But when the house turns on them, it seems to know just how to hurt them the most – threatening to destroy them from the inside out. A stand-alone novel from acclaimed author Kim Newman.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of one of the Lamest Quotes Ever ("That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, and one colossal argument for the need for a decent speechwriter"), I've compiled a list of my favorite moon songs. The criteria:
-- The song must mention "Moon" in the title.
-- I have to like it (so much for "Moonlight Drive," by The Doors).
-- It cannot use the words "June" or "spoon."
With that in mind:
-- Pink Moon (Nick Drake) -- Who knew, before Nick Drake, that a pink moon was an ominous sign of the apocalypse, or at least death by suicide/accidental overdose at a young age? Now we know.
-- White Moon, Blue Moon, Red Moon, If the Moon Turns Green, Smog Moon (The White Stripes, too many to mention, but I'll pick Coleman Hawkins, Umphrey's McGree, Billie Holiday and Matthew Sweet,...

The downtrend continues for the NBA All-Star Game as Sunday's matchup in Las Vegas drew the lowest ratings since the telecast moved to TNT in 2003.
The game, during which the Western Conference beat the Eastern Conference in a 153-132 win, averaged 6.8 million total viewers in its 8:30 p.m. ET airing, according to Nielsen Media Research. The game drew 10.8 million viewers in 2003 and has been declining every year since, averaging just over 7 million last year.
In other cable ratings, Lifetime's Carolina Moon, one of four movie adaptations of Nora Roberts novels, drew solid numbers in its debut at 9-11 p.m. Monday. The movie, starring Claire Forlani, Oliver Hudson and Jacqueline Bisset, averaged 3.7 million total viewers. The Roberts adaptations have done well for Lifetime, though Moon's viewership was off from the 4.9 million that the first movie, Angels Fall, drew Jan. 29.
Court TV, meanwhile, is seeing viewership increases thanks to its coverage of the case surrounding the late Anna Nicole Smith.

Alicia Witt is set to star in Blue Smoke, a Lifetime original movie based on Nora Roberts' best-selling novel.
Matthew Settle, Scott Bakula and Talia Shire also have been cast in the project, one of four adaptations of Roberts' books that Lifetime plans to run back-to-back on Monday nights in February.
The other three -- Carolina Moon, starring Claire Forlani, Oliver Hudson and Jacqueline Bisset; Montana Sky, starring John Corbett, Ashley Williams, Charlotte Ross and Diane Ladd; and Angels Fall, starring Heather Locklear and Johnathon Schaech -- are in postproduction.
Smoke, from Mandalay TV and Stephanie Germain Prods., tells the story of Reena Hale (Witt), who as a child witnessed her family's pizzeria go up in flames. Years later, she becomes a detective working on the police department's arson task force alongside her hero, John Minger (Bakula), the man who found out who was responsible for the fire at her mother (Shire) and father's restaurant.
Hale finds happiness when she meets Bo Goodnight (Settle), a hunky carpenter who becomes her next-door neighbor and paramour when a pyromaniac stalker who killed any man she loved reappears in her life.
