Entertaining Debut Feature

Warning: Spoilers
"No Budget" mystery thriller with a quite entertaining story, beautiful shots of the Austrian countryside and a very atmospheric soundtrack.

The film tells two at first seemingly independent stories - one taking place at the present day, the other a few hundred years in the past. As the movie progresses and anomalies appear in the initially mundane plot strands (at times supported by a deliciously eerie score) the interconnection between these events begins to show.

There is a great tension buildup in the middle, which is (alas) foiled by a much too explicit and simple ending. IMHO the showdown part at the end might have worked a lot better by leaving more to the imagination of the viewer.

It certainly would not be fair to compare the movie to the latest Hollywood blockbuster as it was filmed and produced with a very low budget. But despite some shortcomings, I still found it to be an entertaining movie worth watching.

Overrated?

Warning: Spoilers
(EDIT) I've been told that I might be too harsh because what I've seen (at the theaters) was an unfinished version of the movie. As far as I don't know the final cut, my comment only refers to the "premiere" screening - which was way too long and had the ending as described. So maybe you should build up your own 'pinion. :) (/EDIT)

Oh boy.

Disastrous dialogs, boring plot, most annoying ending EVER.

Yes, I know it's NO-budget, and I know it's done by amateurs. I can forgive cheesy, bad acting (as it was, especially from the main character), but this one fails in almost every other way too ('almost', because I kinda liked the flashback scenes, they've been a hundred times better than the main story, a bit boring, but well made). And I just can't enjoy a movie with lines that are so bad it's not even unintentionally funny...

And the end of this "mystery" thriller? He dreamed it! And not enough to be just plain unoriginal with that (you can end absolutely EVERY mystery plot like so!), it could have been seen from MILES - to be exactly, from the very moment he got struck by that car - which again was so build up that everybody knew it would happen TOO...

This was the most horrible movie I've ever seen at a theater, and I'm not one of those who say this all the time. Ask me again in ten years, my answer will be the same, I'm pretty sure.

P.S. to the producers: If you want to create something decent (located in Graz), contact me. I might have something for you. :) (But I think you'd rather drop me from the top of the Schlossberg stairs, right now. ;))

I enjoyed watching!

OK i watched it on Friday night and in short, i enjoyed watching it! The film focuses on two different time periods, 1823 and the present day, with costume and location for the 19th century being convincing. The special effects were very impressive and there were some beautiful pictures of rural Austria, however at times i felt the scenes of 1823 were a bit difficult to follow, which is probably due to my German being not completely fluent.

Scenes from the modern era were more entertaining. I enjoyed seeing how Thomas met Tamara, their relationship, and the drama from this era was convincing. Thomas then lost contact with Tamara and was told about the "schwarzen man" (black man). Then eventually we see the connection between 19th century Austria and the modern day.

I found the scenes of present day Austria more entertaining as i felt i could understand more of the storyline, however the standard of film-making here is very impressive and shows what high standards can be achieved on a shoestring budget.
