Rodney into a corner... and back again

Believe it or not, Rodney is my favorite character in Stargate Atlantis. And the small doses of Rodney I get each episode, well, here they've surely fulfilled my desire to see him in action.

It's something of a bottle show: not too many special effects, no aliens whatsoever, it's rather an introspection on all the good and the bad stuff that Rodney's made of. And the evolution in this episode of this particular character, and of the others in relation with him, is unbelievably complex and highly engaging.

Rodney might seem a pain in the ass if looked at superficially, but there's plenty underneath the hood. He's a true superhero, humanized by his overflowing feeling of superiority (which, in this episode, is hinted to be actually the reverse, as a mechanism of defense for a very shy and insecure person - not that anyone watching the series didn't get it by now, but we see him realizing that and it's a feast for us, the theater lovers; the acting is exquisite and the episode is worth watching only for that if nothing else seems interesting).

I don't know what else I could be telling about this episode. It's one of the best episodes of Atlantis thus far in the series, and it's worth watching every minute of it. I feel bad about the few ones that can't stand David Hewlett's character, if they have chosen to skip this episode they deny themselves a great show.

I love this episode!

Having watched Atlantis now three times, I have discovered how annoying and whiny Rodney McKay actually is. That being said, this is one of my favorite episodes with Rodney. I love the the scene with him and Ronon. The music encapsulates the very epic point of that encounter and makes it the highlight of this episode.
