Slide Guitar Ride is a deceptively entertaining little documentary about Bob Log III, a bizarre one-man band musician from the desert of Tucson, AZ. Traditionally outfitted in a sparkly jumpsuit and a jet fighter helmet with a telephone receiver fixed to it, Log plays a sludgy but shockingly expert slide guitar while operating a bass drum with one foot. The film works as a portrait of Log, the semi-legendary figure (with some offbeat animated sections illustrating much of the storytelling) but also as a tribute to a kind of wild, cocksure creativity that one so often encounters in backwater destinations like Tucson. Well worth tracking down, especially if you happen to be a fan of amped-up delta blues and over-the-top showmanship.
