I didn't know it was possible to make a feature doc about polka

I saw this documentary at the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan.

Pretty good documentary, but, well, it is a documentary about a polka, so you'll know what to expect. It does a good job of convincing people that polka music isn't just a style that people make fun of. There are so many passionate people in this film. It follows along several people, mainly in Wisconsin, who are determined to make the music more popular and to be taken seriously.

I did learn a lot about polka from this film. I'm not too educated in the music department, so I didn't really know what a concertina was, I didn't know there was an instrument similar to an accordion.

One man in particular, John Pinter, was entertaining to watch because he was so involved in the music and always trying to get more supporters and fans of the music. He's very old and pretty absent-minded. In one scene, he prepares to go to a music festival, and after loading his van with all of the necessary items, he drives off, forgetting to shut the side door of the van.

It's a good movie, and it shows that the music is still alive in a lot of people. It is a bit long and drags a bit, but it's got some interesting scenes and subjects to keep the viewers interest.

The producer Timmothy Gable was there and talked about the making of the film. He said he and director Craig DiBase didn't plan on making a documentary on polka. They were in Wisconsin making a commercial for Pabst Blue Ribbon and John Pinter happened to be nearby and asked if they would make a documentary about polka. What a funny old klutz.
