Asha Parekh accepted the heroine role in this film, because she thought of director Jagdish Nirula as her "rakhi brother".
Leading lady Asha Parekh, who was already a star, recommended the then-unknown Manoj Kumar to be cast as the hero of the film. She saw that he was interested in filmmaking and script-writing during the film. They would be paired in three more films. In 2017, 55 years after the film was made, Kumar told a publication that he was grateful for getting him cast in this film and still "remains obliged to her".
Heroine Asha Parekh wrote in her 2017 memoir "The Hit Girl" that this film "did not do well, perhaps because it was not particularly well-made". Nevertheless, she thought her leading man Manoj Kumar was talented and agreed to act with him again in Do Badan (1966). It became a hit, and the following year, Kumar cast her as his heroine in Upkar (1967), which he not only wrote and directed, but also starred. It became a blockbuster and won major awards. They would then act in their final film together Sajan (1969), which was also a hit.
