Fantastic DVD box set
swinebird29 November 2006
This 3 DVD box set includes lots of extra material about Elvis' TV performances and other life, but most of all from beginning to the end, with commercial and others, those three Ed Sullivan Show episodes where Elvis Presley did perform.

These shows are remastered and they look prop ably better than they did 50 years ago. Also this is the first time that somebody can watch this episodes from the beginning to the end.

In USA this cost only about 18 dollars and in Europe about 35 euro, and it's totally worth of it's price.

The hips that shook the world! This is history.

Warning: Spoilers
Not only television history; but musical history. A young Elvis Presley gives more than a face to rock 'n' roll. One generation watched in total shock. Another one caught the glimpse of the spark of a revolution and new freedom. Elvis had already been on the small tube in America's living rooms. But the three appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show without exception were the most memorable and most watched...even from the waist up. September 1956, October 1956 and two days before his 22nd birthday in January 1957; Elvis Presley had the world by the short hairs.

These CBS TV shows are complete with Lincoln/Mercury commercials. Due to an auto accident, Charles Laughton hosted Elvis' first appearance; but Mr. Sullivan was there the remaining two shows. And what I really found noticeable is the various other talent on the variety program compared with the explosion of Elvis. The contrast is radical; almost wicked. A great historical look back by way of a time capsule of a bygone time that still lingers in our memories.

Considering the vast difference in recording and playback technology since 1956...ELVIS: THE ED SULLIVAN SHOWS is a beauty to watch. Great sound and the DVD has some very interesting extras for die-hard Elvis fans. The spotlight being on the vintage and raw performances of "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me Tender", "Hound Dog", "Love Me", "Too Much", "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again" and "Peace In The Valley". An unpolished, untamed Elvis Presley.
