[first lines]
[Slate stalks into his hotel's lobby, followed by Sailor holding a string of fish]
Sailor Duval : ...but I caught fish.
Slate Shannon : Okay, you caught the fish. Stop rubbing it in, will ya. I had an off day.
Sailor Duval : But all day long you stood right next to me and the fish were biting for me. How do you explain that?
Slate Shannon : What's to explain? You stuck your head in the water and you told the fish how good they looked in the pan. Believe me, among fishermen, those tactics stink.

[discussing Sailor Duval]
King Moses : She'd make you a fine wife, Mr. Slate.
Slate Shannon : Oh, my, what a fine mess of fish.

[discussing a missing hotel guest]
King Moses : Mr. Slate, I know where Mr. Anderson went.
Slate Shannon : Oh?
King Moses : I was outside when he ordered a cab. He asked the cabbie a question and the cabbie gave him an answer.
Sailor Duval : Let me guess. Question: Where can a fella have a time in this town? Answer: Tina's Palace of Fun.
Slate Shannon : And how would you know that, my pretty maid?
Sailor Duval : Oh, I've heard it chuckled about, I have.
Slate Shannon : You have, huh? Would you like to go take a look?
Sailor Duval : Oh, I want to!
Slate Shannon : Figures. Well, get your bib and tucker - I'm taking you dancing.
Sailor Duval : Bib and tucker... Have you seen my tucker? No. No, I know where it is. Don't move. I know where my tucker is. Don't move. No. Yes, yes, I do.

[Slate has just knocked out the murderous Garfield and Bruce]
Slate Shannon : Sailor, get to a phone and call the police.
[rather than do as instructed, Sailor climbs down the ladder to Slate]
Slate Shannon : What's the matter, honey? Honey, are you all right? Then what is it?
Sailor Duval : Mrs. Anderson.
Slate Shannon : Oh.
Sailor Duval : Waiting there... waiting for her husband, not knowing he's dead.
Slate Shannon : Well, I'll take care of that. I'll think of something to say to her.
Sailor Duval : No! No, I'll tell her. I'm a woman.
Slate Shannon : Yes. Yes, baby, you certainly are.
