The Making of Casualties of War (2001)

*** (out of 4)

Director Brian De Palma, producer Art Linson and editor Bill Pankow are interviewed for the making of the director's 1989 Vietnam drama. The documentary clocks in just over thirty-minutes and for the most part it's an entertaining look at the making of the movie. De Palma gets the majority of the screen time as he discusses why he wanted to make the movie and how it was pretty much impossible until THE UNTOUCHABLES became a huge hit. From here he talks about the casting and the various production issues that came up. If you're a fan of the film then you'll certainly be entertained by this featurette, which tells plenty of great stories plus it's always nice when you get to hear from someone like De Palma. It's too bad a few more cast members weren't interviewed but this is still good for what it is.
